"His tillana in raga Kanada is the only one in the Simhanandana tala (the longest of the 108 talas)."
Has anyone heard a rendition of this? Is there a recording available?

i happened to listen to this - witness this rather- in DD about 20 years back performed by a ripe old gentleman. i still remember his words: 'i've attained vridhabya and have become asaktha to teach'. while putting the tala his hand went up in a sort of wave motion. i'm unable to recollect his name-probably a descendent of vaidyanatha sivan. DD should definitely be having this in their archives.

It is available on a commercial CD titled Rhythmic Delights with various artists singing tillAnAs.

I think this thillana was in a release of an old Music Academy concert (1970?) - Mudicondan Venkatrama Iyer with LGJ and UKS. Contained the 72 melaragamalika, Simhanandana RTP as well as the Kanada thillana.

Bombay Sisters - (edited out because it is a commercial clip)

You got to see the tala rendition. Smt. Suguna Purushottaman has sung a pallavi in this ragam. You can see the live action in this VCD:
