Kshetra Sangeetham - 17th Episode coming up

‘Kshetra Sangeetham’ - a project towards researching and presenting the musical aspects of temple towns ('Kshetras') through a series of presentations - concerts, has completed 16 episodes . This musical journey commenced in Jan 2010 , and has covered Kshetras Kanchipuram, Chidambaram, Srirangam, Madurai, Tiruvarur, Chennai, Sringeri, Tiruvaiyaru, Tirupati, Tiruchendur , Guruvayoor, Vaitheeswaran Koil, Swamimalai , Thajavur , Tiruttani and Kasi till date.

Each programme combines a concert focussing on the Kshetra, preceded by a talk highlighting interesting aspects of the temple town - history, architecture, mythology, the temples’ uniqueness, the composers who have sung in praise of the Kshetra and other aspects of musical significance. The concert by Dr. Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam focusses on compositions and hymns specifically on the Kshetra chosen for elaboration.

The virtual musical journey through Kshetras will continue with the 17th episode being planned for September 7 2013, at Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall . Keep watching this space for more !

This definitely dares to be a very interesting place to elaborate for a thematic concert series - it is a congregation of so many temples - shiva and vishnu and also ambal . And, what an achievement - to complete 16 episodes ! Hats off to the artiste .
