Honor for Rohan's student

Post by RKrishnamurthy »

Jay Appaji, an 11th grade student from Plano Texas has been learning mridangam from Rohan for the past few years. He plays in many concerts locally. Recently he was awarded the M&J Lishon/Franks Drums PASIC Scholarship by PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention, http://www.pas.org/pasic.aspx). PASIC is the largest event for percussionists in the world. PASIC will take place in Indianapolis in November. The PASIC scholarship is highly competitive and close to or more than 500 percussionists from around the world are judged for 10 or twelve scholarships. Rohan himself was the recipient
of Thomas Siwe PASICscholarship in 2006 Jay is one of a select young artists representing non-Western percussion to win this prestigious award, which comes with a cash prize, free event registration, and bio publication in the leading journal Percussive News.

Congratulations, Jay Appaji! It is students like him who spread the word around how talented the Indian students are. :)
Congratulations are also due for Rohan who taught his student.
