Who is this ThiruvayAru sekhar?? Is he an octagenarian who was Shri manakkAl's friend or is he a young lad who is another sishya trained by Shri PSN who is just raising to be a star? I had no clue about the vocalist , but still the excitement to hear any artist for the first time is always very high to me. Late by atleast half an hour. I heard an alApanai which took a long time as it was vAgeedeshwari. In the alApanai I heard lot of hari piDI's everywhere almost the style of Shri BMK being omnipresent . He sang my first song for the concert, a rare appA nAn vendudAl kettArul by rAmalinga swami which I heard only by BMK .

The appA nAn vendudAl is a krithi which more borders on the devotional song , than rather a gamakAm filled CM song. The vocalist was always full throated and he gave a nice finish in swaram. A very good amrithavarshini followed. The next 2 (Nariritigowla and hamsanAdam) were average.
I liked the mariyaada gaaduraa both for the rAga alApanai and the krithi rendition ,swarams however were just mediocre. Usually one associates characteristics of sindhubhairavi almost through out the song (omnipresent piDI),but however sekhar sprinkled at only few places the piDi of sindhubhairavi .
Shri BMK pibare ramarasam brilliant rendition was certainly almost there with Sekhar. It was a delight to hear a tillana in kuntalavarali though a little kanakku in the middle was not that interesting , but this tillana seemed to be a perfect number for bharathanAtyam and a brilliant composition of BMK.
The last krithi halla gallalU ...nOllalenchi mAyamma poonchenchi???, I was too sure that it was senchurUtti and not kurinji , almost thinking I got what I had missed in DRS last round audio quiz. But when I went to him and just asked the rAga he said it not senchuruTTi, but sowrAshtram in madhyama shruti. My head is still spinning with madhyama shruti googly. It looks like I have to have one extra head exclusively for these googlies.
