Re: Bharat Sundar @ Nadasurabhi on 15.9.2013
Delightful performance by Bharat Sundar at Nadasurabhi Concert.
On listening to Bharat Sundar's concert, it was heartening to feel that the younger generation have taken to classical music seriously. The listening experience was so good to see all the artists-main and the accompanying artists (all young) had such good rapport and complimented each other all through the concert.
Coming to the specifics, he started with the beautiful kalyani varnam, sung in two kalams.Next came the brisk vasanthabhairavi composition "Nee dhaya radha" bringing out the pathos of thyagaraja yearning for Rama's kindness. An elaborate alapana of Vachaspathi followed and the song chosen was "Parathpara" , a composition of Papanasam Sivan. It had a good niraval and swarams.
Rendition of "Sri Rangapuravihara" was slightly different from the popular patantharam, but never the less interesting. Bhaghayanayya in chandrajyothi was prelude to the main item of the concert. An exhaustive and melodious Bhairavi alapana and thanam followed. In place of Pallavi, nuances filled masterpiece Amba Kamakshi-swarajithi of Shyama Sastri was sung with feeling for the sahithyam, with a beautiful niraval at "bhakthajanakalpalathka" with swarams . A fast paced "Innudhayabharade" in kalyanavasantham-a composition of purandaradasa followed. Virutham of Thondar adippodiazvar -'Pachchai maa malai pol meni' in ragamalika followed by 'Karpooram Naarumo' a nachiar thirumozhi of Aandal in khamas was very beautiful. Finally a bhajan of swtitirunal and a composition on muruga in hamsanandhi, a composition of Madurai Somasundaram, were sung before the mangalam.
H.M.Smitha on violin gave a very good support. She is an artist to be followed . She is able to perceive and anticipate the main artist and compliment the performance. She also showed her maturity in playing alapanas , niraval and swarams.
Manjunath on Mridangam and Sunaad Anoor on kanjira gave a very good support and their talent in the tani avartanam.
( choosing a song after ragam and tanam, reminded one of a Veena concert).
