On 22nd, Sunday, there was an excellent concert of Smt.Pushpa Kashinath at the BTM Cultural Academy.

1. Begada Varnam- Inthachala
2. Vathapi Ganapathi- Hamsadwani (R,N,S)
3. Anupamagunambudi- Ataana
4. Subhapanthuvarali ragam- Ne Pogade.... Very good alapana
5. Garuda Gamana samayamidhe- Nagaswaravali - swaram
6. Sub-Main- Sankarabharanam ragam- Akshaya linga vibho- swaram... Very satisfactory
7. Annapoorne visalakshi- Sama
8. Main- Mohanam- Rara rajeeva- Swaram- Ragamalika swaram in Vasatha Bhairavi, Anandha bhairavi, sindhu bhairavi... Very good.

We had to leave at this stage. Did not want to stay long enough and commit the offence of walking out during Thani.

BC manjunath and Omkar were very good accompanying artists. Omkar's confidence and performance levels are increasing tremendously of late. He has left behind the timid upa pakkavaadhyam role for good. That is good ghatam.

Only that mOhana rAma seems to be becoming overwhelmingly popular sometimes ... I've heard some rAmA nannu namminAs, some evaru rAs, some nannu pAlimpas (which I love too!) but never this song! I find mOhana rAma somewhat melodramatic ...

In the last few years i have heard rA rA rajeeva lOchana sung by maharajapuram ramachandran and VR Dileep kumar as main- both sung in chennai.

Ra Ra rajiva lochana is a masterpiece!

Her father is a senior violinist and was awarded a title a few years back by Gayana samaj. Her husband kashinath is a khanjira artist. I learnt vocal for sometime from her father Sri. Viswanatha. Used to come home to teach in his bicycle. He was in his eighties then. I am told he is still going strong. Must be approaching a century. Hardy gentleman who used to exercise everyday.

The concert was really enjoyable without an overdose of anything. There was a good audience as well.

And Malladi Brothers last yeat at Gokulashtami, Unnati and TNS at Fort School a few years back. Both were as main and phenomenal. That's for Bangalore.

There is a great Ra Ra Rajeevalochana by Lalgudi in the Parvathi blog. In fact that is what took me to them first time and made me a part of their team way back in 2009.
