On a Sunday morning, that too at that early hour, traffic is not a problem at all! Though It's an hour's concert, one can plan on combining a walk and/or breakfast at one of the eateries which surround the place! I hope out of the few music lovers in the area that I've passed on the news, at least one or two turn up.
Best to Aishwarya. Yes, would like to hear her bhUpAlam or whichever one of the morning rAgAs she chooses to sing...

Sri Vasudevan has been doing this for a couple of years and the experience is fantastic. The only issue is to convince myself to be up at 6:00 am on a Sunday morning.

It used to happen at the Heritage Academy, the venue is shifted now.

Lal bagh and Cubbon park used to have six AM weekend open air concerts in their bandstand. I have once attended a lovely D. Balakrishna concert as I sauntered in for my walk. It is extremely tough to get up and go so early, but as they say the early morning bee catches the fragrance of flowers better.

Thanks all.

The program went off beautifully-in the serene morning, with the little sound of birds and almost all other sounds non-existent, it was a soothing start with OM NAMAH PRANAVARTHAYA in Yaman Kalyani followed by KARACHARANA KRITHAM VAA in Bowli and the famous SAMBHO MAHADEVA. The list included

OM NAMAH PRANAVARTHAYA YAMAN KALYANI
KARACHARANA KRITHAM VAA BOWLI
SAMBHO MAHADEVA BOWLI
THAZH SADAYUM SIMHENDRA MADHYAMAM/BS
ENTAMATRAMUNA YEVARU BRINDAVANI/MMG
KALYANI KAMANEEYA SUNDARA KALYANI
BHAJARE RE CHITA KALYANI
SRI RANGA MANGALA NIDHIM BRINDAVAN SARANGA
RANGA PURA VIHARA BRINDAVAN SARANGA
JAGADHODHARANA HINDUSTANI KAPI
PETRA THAI NADHANAMAKRIYA
ARAR AASAI PADAR NADHANAMAKRIYA
GOPALAM PEELU
BHAJARE YADUNATHAM PEELU
SHANTAM SHASVATAM SINDHU BHAIRAVI
SUNERI MAINE SINDHU BHAIRAVI
KURAI ONRUM ILLAI SIVARANJANI/KAPI/SB
MAITHREEM BHAJATHA YAMAN/KAPI
PAVANAJA STUTI PATRA KURINJI

Aishwarya formatted her performance very well to the Prabatha sangeetham pattern, singing quite a few viruthams and raga only for Kalyani. This set a good tone for the bhakti feeling, this initiative is intended towards. Major pieces that touched everyone included evergreen MS favorites like RangaPura Vihara, Jagadhodharana, Arara Asai padar and Maithreem Bhajatha. The piece Suneri Maine had some interesting sindubhairavi phrases. All in all a very pleasant and a very good performance. Some important points

1. Usage of the natural strength of the voice to make it sound pleasing
2. Though the songs chosen were those popularized by MS, Aishwarys brought her own self

The audience response was amazing - we had a record crowd (maybe around 80-100 people, for a morning program at 7 am) with the hall over flowing even in the first 15-20 minutes. Kudos to the appreciative audience. Request them to support such initiatives in music to encourage the musicians and the organizers.

Thanks & Regards,
Vasudevan

It was a good programme - worth our early morning long drive! Aishwarya has a very good voice. She has also put in a lot of effort/practice. She is able to sing quite complex sangatis without any mistake. We wish her good luck in continuing to keep the MS song list alive. Thanks, Vasu, for a good idea and a good artist selection. It is really catching up and it was evident from the audience response.

An extremely memorable & fulfilling concert, wonderful ambience and a highly receptive audience. Thanks to Shri Vasudevan and Nadaloka for arranging this. It was a pleasure to meet Sri KSSR and Smt Harini Raghavan from Rasikas.Org.

Seems like your friends did attend. The hall was jam packed !! And Aishwarya began in Bowli instead of bhUpAlam :)

A very beautiful start for the Sunday morning- had the pleasure of attending a Carnatic music performance by Kum Aishwarya Srinivasan- what made the experience different and unique was that this was a vocal performance with just the Tanpura accompanying the singer- with a voice that's melodious and as deep as her grooming, it was an experience listening to just "divine" music- no embellishments needed! For more than an hour, one could see several members of the audience feeling transported by the melody of her music tinged with the aura of MS and her own grandma Mrs Radha- several of their popular songs kept the listeners including me craving for more. Wishes from an admirer and a proud witness of the MS legacy in the making! Thanks to Vasudevan and Nadhalokha- you've given a new perspective to music listening with the focus on the singer instead of the percussions- it was a delight! :)
