That is a thiruppugazh, which Alathur Bros used to sing in Khanda Jaathi Dhruva thAlam. It has an eDuppu at 6 beats after samam.(i.e, it begins at the 7th beat at the veechu).sankark wrote:paniyin vinthuli - ? - misra + kanda + kanda - arunagirinAthar
Chengalpet Ranganathan sang this once @ Ragasudha

Actually Sanjay explained that it was modified to fit into the same 17 aksharas using the misra+2*khanda tala first by Flute Maestro Sankaran sir who was sitting in the audience at the concert.

A nice gesture to celebrate the maestro's 84th birthday in advance
See Uday's post in Music and Festivals and Jayanth's (T.S. Sankaran's grandson and flautist) blog for details. All are welcome to the event, a concert by talented young artistes to follow, and cake too!

One of the mind-bending innovations at this concert was attempted during the Nagaswarali swara prastharam early in the concert. Lasting just a minute or so, Sanjay executed some non-chalant swarabedham, as if to test if people were paying attention

Can you explain swarabhedham please? And how Sanjay performed it? Thanks in advance.

Glad you asked!
I will try to do better. Here is a short clip (for educational purposes).

It is the tail end of a rocking swara prastharam that had the audience dancing in their seats. See if you can spot the moment I almost fell off the chair
