Wondering if someone could give the arohanam avarohanam and point out a few characteristics of kaapi and mention the difference between kaapi and hindusthaan kaapi ;)

I have a very sweet kaafi by Rashid Khan-Sung at toronto- with a wonderful carnatic touch.Somehow I got an impression that it was close to kharaharapriya in that track.
I will post it later here.

Kaapi is a Bhaashanga raaga and it is the janya (daughter) of Kharaharapriya. So it basically shares the same swarasthaanaas as Karaharapriya as well as some swaras outwith Kaharapriya thus becoming a Bhaashaanga raaga.
Aro: SR2M1PN3S Avarohanam: SN2DN2PM1G2R2S
Some of the sancharaas are like this..
R Sa n*rmrmpnp n* Sa nGaaRSa Sa n* p n* sga* ga*sa ga* ma ma n p ma ga r s r
Swaras with stars indicate Anyaswaras namely sudda rishaba and Anthargandhara in this case.
If you want a clear picture i can write a detailed version of sancharas for you.
A beautiful compostion of Sri Sivan for you with both Alapana and Kalpanaswaram by Sowmya for you is below...

one of the best Intha Soukhya I have heard is from the MM Iyer Concert-popularly known in the collector circles as the Ethavunnara concert Since it is a magnificent rendering.
That has a great and elaborate Kapi -intha soukhya as well. Will post it if Badri does not do it before me.

an aging sri kvn had rendered a sublime intha sowkyamaninE in (probably) his last music festival kutchery - which was released in the "season200x" series, from charsur. simply great - he does a great neraval at 'swara rAga laya'

Sri KVN has also rendered a beautiful jagododharana - it is available on musicindia online.

I also have heard a wonderful version of "parulanna mata" by brindha and muktha

coolkarni -- That Rashid Khan rendition is quite lovely. It sounds much like Kharaharapriya, but there seem to be frequent R M sancArAs. But thanks for uploading this! The second composition starts off with a very characteristic Kapi sancAram 'r m p ni p ga'. Oh and I just heard Rashid Khan say 'Saheb, aap bahut accha gaatein hain, magar...maafi.' Wonder who that refers to? Some overenthusiastic frontrower I suppose.

The second composition definitely has a much stronger Kapi feel to it than the first one.

cannot be sure of the context
however Lalith J Rao in one of her concerts makes it a point to say words to this effect:
"I cannot immediately recognise all the senior practioners of this art here in this assembly.Should you find my music falling short by your standards, I Humbly request you to pardon me my failings ."
And goes on to sing a great Darbari for 90 minutes .
will try and locate it.
Maybe this was something on such lines.

Param,
Who are the artists (flute, clarionet? and violin) featured in both pallavis? The first pallavi is in Behag and the second is in Kapi.

Can anybody post a raga alapanai version of Kapi followed by a song with Neraval and swarams...? KVN seems to have been a connoiseur of this ragam....

i have found the elaborate "Intha Sowkya" rendition by Sri MMI, sung with cutting-edge swaras and a long-drawn out-yet busy alapanai...in his own personable and distinct style. Kapi has depth...but Sri MMI instils his own signature patterns, with no ambiguity in the sancharas. The song is developed beautifully, like the way it should have been..and it rains and pours swaras with the violinist emulating the scissor patterns of the vocalist towards the end. Worthwhile, this song is..I can upload if anybody is interested.

TNS renders Kapi (especially kalpana swaram) wonderfully. At the conclusion of a Saveri RTP he sang ragamalika swaram in 22 ragams (one avartanam each) and then concluded singing Kapi swaram for 8 minutes. At one stage he sings RG',SR,NS,DN',PD,MP,GM,RG',SR,NS in one swoop - covering all the notes used in this bhashanga raga.

Excellent stuff.
Recording not available.

I will post it later here.
I always thought Kaafi of Hindustaani is Karaharapriya of Carnatic .. and I really dont know the Kaapi equivalent in Hindustaani. I might be wrong so please correct !!
