I was visiting Chennai for a day and was fortunate to listen to this concert (though not in its entirety). It was a memorable concert, good team and nice selection. The bowli krithi was new to me and was very soulful. sree subramanyo and sathguru swamiki were rendered beautifully.

This is a krithi written as an homage to Sri Tyagaraja. Hence the name Tyagaraja appears in the krithi. It is not to be confused with Sri Tyagaraja using his name as his mudra. This is a beautiful kRti. I have always wondered if it should be tALukomma and not tALukommu.
(I must add that I am just wondering - I do not have any knowledge of telugu language!)
Vijay Siva's Guru DKJ has also sung it as tALukommu.

Vijay Siva gave another memorable concert in BSU 2013 at NGS on 6th Nov 13.

This was before VVS & Murari Violin duo- titled “bhooloka vaikundam” concert here. Vijay siva opened “sorga vAsal” through his concert.
Summing up at the end of the concert, BSU organizer, Sasikiran joyfully said Vijay Siva always satisfies the rasikas with his “quality music” and never disappoints. He also apologized for not including Raja Ganesh name in the display or in the invitation.
Before going to the list, I found it interesting to see MC resting the other end of the violin on a wooden “thick” stick. Though, his playing did not make any difference, it was unusual, as I always see, violin is kept vertical and bow moved slightly sideways while playing. Keeping it static and playing was something new to me. He has to keep his right hand uppish throughout the concert. Rasikas can clarify this.
Vijay Siva rendered two “lovely” kritis- “sadguru swamikki” in ritigowai, being Thursday and Sri subrahmanyo mAm- Todi- MD considering Kandha Sashti on the next day.
For me, it has been a long time to get an opportunity to listen to this “forgotten kritis” and from VS, it was always quality personified.
While entering the hall. VS was winding up “Thyagarajuni hridayamandu” in Kedaram krithi of Thyagarajar-RamA ni pai tanaku.

- Todi- Subramanyo mAm rakshatu- Kriti on Tiruchendur Temple by MD. Before starting the kriti he started “19th verse of Subramanya bhujangam- “kumArEsha sooNo guha skandha sEna… sadA raksha mAm tvam”
- Neraval in “bhasamAna vallidEvasEno” and swaram followed by Tani.,
This kriti you can enjoy only from DKJ school and especially Vijay Siva closed his eyes and started bhujangam, one can feel the divine presence..
One word in the anupallavi goes like this- “patra vibhUti pradhAna nipuna”, which means – vibUthi is given in the leaf- still being followed in tiruchendUr. Adhi shankarar also used this in his bhujangam (25th verse) which means “paNNEEr ilai vibhUti” will cure all diseases.
I also expected kAthikEya but once he started bhujangam, I was sure it was MD kriti.
- Hey kamAkshi Ekambreshwari- Yadukulakambodhi-Andavan Pichai
- TirukurugUr nambi-pAsuram- Jonpuri, surutti, devagAndhari, Ananda bairavi, kAmbodhi- madhurakavi AzhvAr. The pAsuram kaNNinAl kattunda”
- Kanakasaila vihArini- Shyama sastri- punnAga vArali
- aRRaikkirai dEdi- Tiruppugazh- kalyani-ArunagirinAthar.
- Mangalam-swasti prajAta paripAlayam
kEdAram kriti – especially the swaram is like a joyful ride. Vijay siva set the concert to a poignant mood with that. Reminding Alathur pudIs.
Elaborate neraval of latAngi followed by chain of swarams.
Tani was very good and Manoj siva did not show that much “speed” as was shown in TMK, but it was too good.
I request some one to give Andavan pichai kriti. It was very soothing.

I recently saw Dr. Rajam play with a similar support in the jugalbandi with Dr. Manjunath at Bangalore Gayana Samaja. My guess is that they are using this because of some medical advice for a back related problem.
