I could get no other link..
A comment says " This is not Graphics..... This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa . Amazingly, 97% of the machines components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa. Yes, farm equipment.
It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see, it was well worth the effort.
It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian."

Re: A new instrument
Sorry sir, this photo reminds of an exactly similar looking machine shown in a YouTube video some years ago which was PURELY computer graphics and a hoax. Will try to unearth that link.

Re: A new instrument
Totally bogus and generated by computer graphics.
http://www.snopes.com/photos/arts/musicmachine.asp
However, someone recently built a musical instrument conceived by Leonardo da Vinci. It could not have been built with the technology available in his time.
I read about it on the web but can't be bothered to even google for it now.
PS. Googled for it. Here it is:

Even if it is computer built, you cannot deny that it is a brilliant piece of..work..
Be generous.. to give credit where it is due..
Me and you cannot create one like it..

Re: A new instrument
Harimau's lead:

it seems to be a series of strings pressed by keys against a vibrating bow. I need to brush up my Polish to understand it better.
This helps, too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viola_organista
