Review of Dr.M.Narmadha concert at BVB Dec 04, 2013

Post by jananinarayanan »

The Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan organised the violin solo concert of Dr.M.Narmadha.
The concert was held in 4.00PM-5.30PM evening session.
It was a musical treat which suited the audience and their taste.
The choice of songs were perfect and the ambience was good and the crowd was very receptive of the violin solo concert.
The percussion accompanists in mridangam and ganjira provided apt support for the violin solo.

Good to see a thread about this concert. I happened to attend this concert. Being a music student, there are plenty to imbibe from Narmadha Madame's concert.
The way a raga build-up is done is a very important aspect in her concert. The hamsaanaadam and abheri were brilliant. The choice and combination of phrases to bring the bhava in the raga is a key aspect of her rendering. The parur style of playing covers many instruments, flute, violin, naadhaswaam notes while playing a raaga that it requires very careful study and analysis on how much importance is given to art of expanding a raaga. Another feature that comes in mind is the ability of Sri.MSG and Narmadha madam to present phrases and notes, combination of notes in an extempore manner. The spontaneity of raga delivery is something unique, what i mean to convey here is though raaga abheri is one and same, the raaga rendition and phrases (aalapana) portraying the essence of raaga will never be same when we look at two concerts in tandem of MSG and Narmadha.

CAN SOMEONE who attended Dr.N'S CONCERT IN MYSORE IN MEMORY OF MSG RECENTLY write a review of the FUNCTION as well as the concert. Apparently she played BOTH C.M. & H.M. SEPARATELY in that concert. VKV
