Respected Rasikas,
We wished to salute Vidushi Sudha Raghunathan for the many fond memories we have of her and for her being designated as the new Sangitha Kalanidhi.
We offer you one of her beautiful performances from 1989, when she was much younger and an upcoming star. It was at the 20th Ramanavami series conducted in "Parvathi", Mysore.
She is accompanied by the stellar Vidushi Lalgudi Rajalakshmi (sister of the eminent Lalgudi Jayaraman) and Vidwan Chandramouli, disciple of Vidwan TAS Mani. Vid Chandramouli was substituting that day for his Guru, who had been called away to Switzerland.
Sri K. Srikantiah in his thanksgiving speech (rendered in Kannada) speaks of his admiration for Smt. Raghunathan's performance, particularly the "Shanamukhapriya" which he says is an exact replica of the one that MLV performed in 1951 in "Parvathi". He says that from that terrific imbibing of a Shishya in the same glorious footsteps as that of her Guru, he knew she was bound to assume the MLV mantle one day.
Those days, have indeed come and will stay with us for a long time.

Lalgudi Smt. Rajalaksmi is vidushi Smt. Jayanthi Kumaresh's mother, and vidvAn Sri Abhishek's maternal grandmother.

Thanks cpblog. Quite timely.
That was a sprightly start by Sudha with Kalyani. She latches onto that unique Kalyani 'ni' so well.

Yes, surely worth a listen as Sudha shows her talent amply in the concert from the word go- Kalyani merely sets the stage.
I agree with VKM, she touches the higher notes very precisely even while singing fast passages-clearly seen in Shankarabharana as well as Shanmukhapriya.
