The Tamil song is 'Mutthu kumarayyane.' Mutthu Kumaran is the name of Muruga in Vaitheeswaran Koil. They sang 'KumAra', but it is 'Kumara' in the song.

Song no. 2. I think it should be 'ArOgyam bhAskarAth ichEta ', meaning one should pray for health from the sun god.

There is another shlOkam which describes what one gets from praying to the navagraha.
'ArOgyam dadhaatu nO dinakarah chandrO yashO nirmalam
BhUthim bhUmisutah sudAmshu tanayah pranjAm
Gurur gouravam kAvyah kOmala vAkvilAsam atulam
MandO mudam rAhuhu bAhubhalam virOdha shamanam
KEtuh kulasyOnnatim

Mods: since this is a thread on the Malladi brothers' concerts, if this post does not belong here, it may be kindly deleted.
I just wanted to highlight the first line 'ArOgyam dadhAtu nO dinakarah'

japA kusuma sankAsham by Vyasa Maharshi is well known and mostly recited daily by house holders.
The other simple navagraha stotram being...sUryah shourya matHenduruCHa padavIm sanmangalam mangalah sadbuDhincha budho gurushcha guruthAm shukah sukam sham shanih rAhubhahur balam karOthu viphulam kEthuh kulam sYoNthih nithyam prIthikarA bhavanthu bhavathAm sarveyprasaNagrahaha...

The solidity and azhuththam of Malladi are inimitable. They are deservedly getting top slots in all series.

Sangeetham definitely can bring peace of mind which is good for aroghyam. More than that, people asking them questions like "which song is good for all round health" (what for arthritis, diabetes, etc., as if they are M.D.s) was quite amusing. Without batting an eyelid, the senior's reply that "Surya deva" is best for all round health was even more interesting ;)

What is azhuttham? Can you describe it? Quantify it? Why are you all harping on azuttham? Don't you realize sureshvv will be enraged at this word and react as if you had called him a cuckold?

Just finished listening to this via youtube. Thanks to Jaya TV for uploading these! Very nice programme. Embar Kannan's support was good - very sweet Dwijavanthi :-)
Does anyone know the composer of the last song on Surya?

Many others have responded with understandable irritation. They obviously know the description. Many things in life cannot be "described". eg: "life" iteself. Also, they cannot be quantified. You either understand and if not ignore.

Once again you are wrong on both counts.

I am enraged only when it (or more accurately lack of) is used to disparage a good (bordering on great) artiste. If you use it to compliment a performance, I have absolutely no problems with it.

Also, calling me a cuckold would hardly enrage me. I wear that badge with pride :-)

enna azhutthamO? enna traditiono? enna bhAvamO?
If you said the bros had azhuttam 5 years ago, i may have partially believed it. Now? i dont think so...

In another concert, it seems Dr. NithyasrI took the audience to bhUlOka vaikuNTham itself. seems like she is riding the sympathy wave -and it will carry her for some more time. She sounded like she hadn't opened her mouth to sing in like 6 months (understandably so - please don jump at me! i recognize her personal loss - it is irreplaceable, irreversible). There was a mention of DKJ style - for not looking at mike. i hope its not for voice production and gamaka suddham.

Elsewhere, some one else is busy talking and writing about music, than singing. He says he can give up kutchery even. At this rate, some day kutcheri might give up on him.

indha varushattu SK pathi sollavum vendumo?

oNNumE puriyallEy. evreything sounds so contrived.

only one thing is clear - there are clear cut recipes / formulae for achieving various targets in this mad music scene.
artists are intelligent and shrewd enough to work on those recipes. personally for me, i dont' think there is a recipe for creating that 'AhA' effect on stage. In this aspect, how many artists do we have the pleasure of listening to? my answer takes me into greater depression

regards

Oh, childishness? On my part?

When I replied to sureshvv on another thread, he took off like a rocket.

All I said was a particular singer is commonly believed to lack azhuttham in her singing.

All it required was for him to realize I had given an answer that was consistent with pperumal's comment about the different trajectory the singer had chosen.

But he reacted violently. And when I said I had two trained musicians with me who pretty much validated what I had said, he said it was BS.

Interestingly, the reviewer in Dinamalar said the same thing.

sureshvv tells me I should go sit in an echo chamber.

The man is a clueless idiot. I had pointed out that I can name a well-respected vidushi for her opinion whom anyone can contact if they would send me e-mail.

sureshvv couldn't be bothered to do that.

About a year back, when I said alternative sabhas have their own biases, he said I was entertaining conspiracy theories where there were none. (Search this website for "conspiracy theory" and you will get the post).

Yet, when in September of this year, I caused a near panic in kvn1955 and Older than Methuselah with pointed references to the bias of one alternative sabha, sureshvv stayed out the discussion in his hole like a rat that shuns the daylight.

It is one thing have one's own biases. I don't have a problem with it. As someone said, opinions are like mouths (they actually said they are like the opening at the other end of the alimentary canal), everybody has one.

But to oppose facts pig-headedly is not something I will tolerate.

sureshvv couldn't even recognize that all I did was to point out an opinion - an opinion held by several persons - and could have ignored it.

Instead he chose to take this as a personal insult on his tastes and reacted violently.

The man is irrational.

You have to.

I have taken you apart piece by piece.

You should be happy that I am not double posting this to the General Discussions track.

You can point to that with pride as where you have won.

I need to clean up a few threads in which this harimau-sureshvv 'interaction' has happened and a few characterizations and word usages that are not suitable for this family-friendly forum. I will do that when I have some free time.

I think this issue has been talked about in public enough. Do not drag this issue to other threads any more. Take it to private emails if you still feel a need to continue. This is the kind of spat where everyone is seen in a lesser light at the end, the most unfortunate one being the artist for no fault of theirs.

How come the duo's tamil diction is so good. Have they been residing in Chennai for long?
The way they rendered Muthukumarayyane was very good.

I guess it is because they take the trouble to learn the correct way to pronounce. One other non-tamizh speaker who sings tamizh songs well is Smt. M. S. Sheela.
