SELECTION OF MAIN

Going through the Music Academy Song list I find no one has chosen ragams & songs combinations like Kambhoji (Sri Subramanyaya Namaste; Evarimata); Bhairavi (Balagopala); Saveri (Sri Rajagopala); Todi (Ninne nammmi;Dasarathe); Sankarabharanam (Akshyalingo Bhava), Nattaikurinji (my favourite Navarathri Swati Tirunal Kriti). These ragas & songs give a grandiose feeling when taken as the main. No one wants to sing Panchrathna Kriti like Sadhinchane/Entharo etc. Popular artists prefer somewhat lighter ragas like Kapi/Kamas/Behag/Hamikalyani etc for Main & RTP. Even Varnam singing is omitted by several artists. Atleast Academy should ensure artists sing a varnam; a major composition as main & RTP & atleast 3 to 4 post main items. I didn't hear even one person singing Mayamma, etc etc. Just saying out of some kind of longing.

IIRC Akkarai sisters sang Maayamma in their academy concert. They also sang a ragamalika Varnam.

Ra-Ga started their concert with thodi Varnam - Era Napai. Incidentally their main was Upacharamu jese in Bhairavi.

I attended RaGa concert ( I could listen only from Sri Mathurboodam). I was disappointed with the selection of song for Bhairavi. I thought Upacharamu jesa is best suited for a chamber sized hall.

I am recollecting from memory after reading the souvenir a week or two back.You have not attended those concerts in Academy.

Infact this year vidushi dr baby sriram sang brOvu brOvu in keeravani(syama sastri krithihi), which i am not sure if any one has sung before in academy as a main.
