Dear friends,

Do we all know what are all the names of the raags in Hindustani Music?

In a bid to improve our knowledge in a simpler manner - I propose the following:

Let us take one alphabet at a time - for instance A. Let us begin listing out all the raags in Hindustani Music under A - followed by sharing our collections with each other. :D

Once A is over we start with B then C then D and so on.

How does this sound to my musical friends - I would prefer your feedback. ;)

Thanks and best wishes,

Param

after converting my entire HM tapes to mp3, i have stored them artistwise as well raga wise on cds.
so a listing of tracks available wiull not be a problem
..i can also pitch in with film tracks in the respective ragas.
i will upload an excel file of a listing of CM ragas with HM equivalents wherever possible and vice versa-tomorrow.
something i picked up over the internet long ago.
also a list of film songs with their ragas.

i wonder if alphabetical order is the right one.maybe badri or karthik can guide us through the "thaat" mode of classifications.not that it matters to me , but it may be more valuable for most people here who are well versed with the theory of CM.

Dear coolkarniji,

I look forward to receiving the XL file first - as my first step towards updating my database.

Thanks a million,

I also look forward to receiving valuable inputs from Badri and Karthik and for that matter from CMLover too.

I wouldn't dare claim to being well-versed with the theory of CM (or HM) for that matter.
But I do agree with Kji that thaat mode is the way to go to understand "like like" ragas.

Param, for starters, here's a website that lists ragas in alphabetical order and also
lists what thaat they fall under:-
http://www.adwaitjoshi.com/icm/raagabase.php
You can click on each raga to get a concise set of notes on it.

Kji from he website, another page with a listing of ragas for hindi movie songs:-

Coolkarni,

Would you be kind enough to post the Raga equivalence(CM-HM). It appears it has been deleted because of inactivity

Thanks a bunch

Shankar
