Old gags like me or rasikas (young / old) interested in reliving or wanting to peep into the past to know how the concerts then used to be - you may want to listen to Pgt Ramprasad. Several times I used to think it is because his music is so rich and pure tht it is perhaps not in a very consumable form, and thus extremely under rated in the current scenario.
As usual, a very traditional concert ably supported by the accompanists. I was very happy about the fact that this time PRP chose to sing the main ragam for more than 15 mts - haven't heard him do this recently. Am hearing the ranjani and bhairavi piece after a long time.
I personally prefer N and S in etulabrothuvo. Also, thought the N was overdone in Chalagallaladu - cud have been cut by a third, because ocassionally I heard repititve phrases. BUG's return in general was very good - but fell short by a distance in the chakravaham ragam, which he compensated in Bhairavi. Narendran and KVG were outstanding, and the palghat Raghu style gelled so much with the ARI KVN style of PRP. I've also got the same feeling when Tvm Balaji accompanies PRP - somehow the rapport seems to be a notch above. On the whole, the 2 hours flew in a jiffy. Sriramajayarama reminded me of KVN's, but believe it is a master pieve of Musiri - someone have a recording of it by anychance?
Got the parivadhini link to the concert in youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eyMnKVPrPU but unfortunately the bhairavi ragam is cut in different places: if the link chief is seeing this review, can you kindly rectify it if possible?
