A long and extremely interesting event! The core session on the Mysore Vaggeyakaras lasted about two hours but the function lasted another 110 minutes with lots of speeches and felicitations to various artistes and people by the Sangeeta Sambhrama Nirantharam organized by the redoubtable Vid. Pustakam Rama.
Prof Nagamani made a masterly AV presentation with excerpts from her earlier teleserial and presented exquisite compositions with an ensemble of thirteen singers in addition to her own lead, a flute, violin, keyboard, mridangam, tabla and electronic rhythm pad sounding often like Tavil.
Everyone sang pitch and lyric perfect and the round of Kalpana swaras was really interesting with about twenty five 'parts' sung in round robin style.
The compositions presented were:
1. A tribute to Mysore composers by Prof Nagamani in raga "Krishnamani" (sounded like Jog)
2. Veene Sheshanna's Shankarabharanam Swarajathi in Sankeerna Triputa tala - a most impressive composition full of raga bhava and laya tautness. A song worth learning for any serious CM student!
3. Muthiah Bhagavatar's Daru Varna "Sri Rajarajeshwari" in Hindustani Kapi. An extremely melodious composition, giving a comprehensive picture of the raga. Ideal for dance indeed, and the superset of ideas of which the ST "Vihara Manasa Rame" looks like a small subset (same tunesmith!?)
4. A beautiful composition of HMB often sung in concerts - Karnaranjani Vanchatonu Na
5. Mohana masterpiece of Mysore Sadashiva Rao "Pedda Devudini Ninnu" this clearly sounded like an inspiration for Vasudevacharya's "Ra Ra Rajivalochana"
6. Bhoga Vasantha (postedit:Kamavardhini without Pa) - Amba Sri Rajarajeshwari by Mysore Maharaja JCW. A very profound composition with wonderful, meaningful lyrics.
7. A Shanmukhapriya composition presented with raga, niraval and swaras - Mysore Vasudevacharya's song "Manamu To Nannu"
8. A tillana in Vasanthi composed by Prof Nagamani - this was a brisk affair with a very appealing structure. The raga is the one in which BMK has sung "Pravisha Radhe" Ashtapadi.
9. Kayau Srigauri - the Mysore Palace anthem. Composed by Veene Venkatagiriyappa as announced by Prof. Nagamani .
The whole programme spoke of the Prof.'s scholarship, presentation expertise and mastery of the compositions of these wonderful composers. None of the songs was presented mechanically. The fervour of the lady singers was commendable and the accompaniments were very apt and subdued, There was never a musically compromised moment in the entire programme.
Hearty congratulations to Prof. Nagamani Srinath.

Nice to read about this! Like Ravi, I hope this program was recorded and will be shared.
About "Kayau Srigauri - the Mysore Palace anthem. Composed by Veene Venkatagiriyappa as announced by Prof. Nagamani"
I wonder if Smt Nagamani meant it was tuned by Sri Venkatagiriyappa. I have read that the sAhitya was penned by Sri Basappa Shastri.
Sri Raja Chandra has uploaded a nice vocal version in his YouTube channel.
There is also a gramophone recording of Sri Gotuvadya Narayana Iyengar (only first 1:22 duration of this song) in YouTube (channel name:Sunny78rpmmusic)

Indeed, this song was composed by 'Abhinava Kalidasa' Pandita Basappa Shastri, who has translated into Kannada among other, the ShAkuntala, Kumarasambhava and Romeo and Juliet [with lead characters called RumaNvAn and JayalatA!].About "Kayau Srigauri - the Mysore Palace anthem. Composed by Veene Venkatagiriyappa as announced by Prof. Nagamani"
I wonder if Smt Nagamani meant it was tuned by Sri Venkatagiriyappa. I have read that the sAhitya was penned by Sri Basappa Shastri
The tune, it isn't clear who settled it, there was an informal Panel, including VenkaTagiriyappa, Mutthayya Bhagavatar, Bidaram KRSNappa and GiribhaTTara Timmayya [Bangalore Nagaratnamma's guru] who were in change of the music section of the Department of Public Instruction.
The tune is a mildly tweaked version of God save the queen; and was further plagiarised (both mAtu and dhAtu) by Tagore during his 1919-1922 visit to Mysore, in his Ananda lOkE mangala lOke.
Now, I have a niggling feeling I may have written about this before on rasikas. Sorry for the repetition..

Keerthi, thanks for pitching in. Yes I heard that this song was actually commissioned to be composed for the Mysore Royal Band.
Whenever I think of you, I I remember the shloka in BG 10.38= Keerthi, Sri, Vak, Smrti Medha
