Lessonface, an American company, is a new concept in online teaching of music and holds promise to make serious impact on how music might be taught in the future. I do not know the details of how it works. But I got the following press release from the CEO of the company. This was sent out worldwide. This was passed on to me by a friend in the School of Music with a request that I pass it along to “Indian audience”, and I wanted to share it here. Thanks.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Live Online Indian Drumming Master Class Welcoming Students
Up to 90 Drummers and Students of Indian Culture Anywhere in the World Can Learn Direct from Dr. Rohan Krishnamurthy on February 16, 2014
New York City, January 16, 2014 – Coming February to a computer near you (should you accept this challenge), acclaimed Indian drummer Dr. Rohan Krishnamurthy is teaching a one hour master class on the basics of Indian drumming, and how to apply it to other types of drums and genres.
The Lessonface-produced class will be live streamed online, over a high-functioning video conference system, so attendees will be able to watch and ask questions as Dr. Krishnamurthy lectures one of his master students. Rohan will be in San Francisco, the master student in Brooklyn, and the attendees, limited to 90, all over the world.
Young Rohan, who recently received his PhD in musicology at Eastman School of Music, is an international performer and promoter of the South Indian pitched drum, the mridangam. You may have seen his accolades in USA Today, The Times of India, The Hindu and Hindustan Times. In December 2013, he was star of “Rohan,” a novel concerto written for him by Eastman professor Dr. Payton Macdonald, at Juilliard, in New York City. He has taught and studied widely, as well as created his own award-winning drumhead tensioning system for the mridangam.
The master class will cover essential Indian rhythmic theory, drumming techniques, and repertoire, as well as learning and applying these across musical boundaries. The event will feature live teaching with one of Rohan's students from the Eastman School of Music.
Tickets available starting Friday, January 17, at 10:30 pm IST/ Noon EST. The live class takes place on February 16, at 10:30 PM IST/ Noon EST. The class will also be recorded and made available to enrolled students for later review.
