Abhishek @ Chowdiah 16 Feb. 2014

Taking a cue from Parivadini et al, here is reporting directly from Chowdiah.

Bharatiya Samagana Sabha covered themselves with glory conferring the title Samagana Matanga award on Nedunuri. He said in his acceptance that he belongs to the Mysore parampara his Guru being Pinakapani, his guru Lakshman Rao, his guru Karigiri Rao being a disciple of Mysore Sadasiva Rao. He sang on request Okapari in KHP, the song he taught MSS. He said 'sampradayo rakshati rakshitah'. He said manodharma sangeetha requires a format longer than 3 hours in a concert.

UKS spoke beautifully highlighting Nedunuri's lasting legacy and UKS's own love for Bangalore.

ABHISHEK then took over with Charulata Ramanujam, Neyveli Narayanan and Guruprasanna.
After Begada adi varna, Shuddha Seemanthini (Janaki Ramana), Nagaswarali- good alapana and swaras for Garudagamana, he sang two songs as a tribute to Nedunuri - Kapi - Janakiramana and Kambhoji - Emayya Rama.

Just concluding a mega Todi Karttikeya with alapana, niraval, swara with blistering breakaway patterns of phrases and swaras, scaling three octaves and and true ABHISHEK music.
The Tani showed how wonderful a match Neyveli Narayanan is for AR. Charulata and Prasanna did great too.
More to follow....

A shloka after speeches and honouring with shawls etc...
Hey Gopalaka from Mukunda Mala, in an "untaggable" raga as announced by AR.
I myself imagined travelling on Palace on Wheels in the tourist triangle of Jaipur, Mathura and Delhi (Mand - Yaman - Jinjhuti) ending in the song Navaneeta Chora in Jinjhuti (Annamayya)...

A day before Neyveli narayanan had a concert at mumbai (sowmya as per another post)- the next day at bangalore may not be that great news for the mrudangam artist.
Is the tambura artist tambura vaidyanathan . If I am indeed right, even tambura artist from chennai travelling to Bangalore is indeed news to me.

Rajesh, right and right!
NEYVELI played very well except for Purvi - he seemed unfamiliar with the tillana (a KVN MDR special - Need Raghu on the mrudangam for it!)

Tambura artist also travelling to Bangalore is indeed a sign of very good financial muscle for the performing artist.

Sachi,

A concert I missed (distances in Bengaluru and the inevitable traffic snarls).
Isn't the tambura artiste playing the Sruthi box? Is Abhi partial to the box? I've seen the box in youtube clips of his also.

Yes, Rajesh. Healthy signs that CM organizers are not counting rupees when it comes to a tambura artiste.

The gentleman is often seen in AR concerts. Normally he wields a stringed tambura but this time he played a sruti box. abhishek mentioned he had come all the way from chennai. He was also shawled and bouqueted.

I think more than counting rupees, musicians are carefully calibrating their presentations and ensembles especially for high profile events like this one.

Arasi - in my defense, it was the use of 'Bucket', or 'Bouquet' as a verb that summoned her! (Accio Hyacinth, perhaps?!!) :-) - There, now we have Hogwarts as well!!
