Your own Carnatic blogs on Rasikas.org

Post by srkris »

Most of us blog on Music. So why not blog right here on Rasikas.org to enable other Rasikas to read and respond to your posts at one place?

I've thought about this for some time and decided to bring up a blog called 'Vadaami' at http://rasikas.org/blog

Those of you who are interested to start blogging, please let me know in this thread so I can grant you access.

# All of us are hard pressed for time. If the content is in one threaded discussion it makes a lot of sense and that is why our forum is noteworthy for all in the entire ecosystem of CM .The fact of having a threaded discussion board helps us, in blogs traditionally that kind of threaded discussion is not possible with many restrictions. If blogs within rasikas go in the same route as threaded discussion , then there is no difference between blog and bulletin board threaded discussion .

# Assuming you have blog content it gets spread in more than one place(for eg we can talk on madurai mani iyer in a threaded discussion and multiple blogs by multiple users talks about madurai mani iyer). This idea is more a pain than a gain to any one .Did you also think about how much of pressure you mods face for doing at times content moderating in threaded discussion , now with some one posting some where in some blog within rasikas will be a major headache for moderation. Also how are we going to see all topics in one click so that the end user sees in one click all unread posts in blog and BB.

# People like Jayan , bharath , arunk , badari, sindhuja etc all have lovely blogs . Now for you to empower 8000 rasikas to have blogs will be a data deluge - water water everywhere not a pinch of water to drink. All of us will lose interest when content is not collated. Also in the profile you have a place holder for them to give a url , let any body give their url .

Donot violate the core first cardinal principle of "one place one content" with this election promise of Vadaami.

If i am wrong I am willing to take my words back but for that ,Can you tell in 6 to 8 lines in few concise points what does blog in rasikas achieve that the threaded discussion cannot achieve?

I think you may have misunderstood the concept. I'm not asking 8000 people to have their own 8000 blogs on rasikas.org (i.e. I have not invented a new blog host)

I am inviting the forum members to start blogging on a single blog located on this site (not suggesting to them to close their personal blogs though). The advantage as I mentioned earlier is that a rasika does not have to visit 20-30 blog sites (you have mentioned only five names but there sure are many more out there) every day, this is a centralized location.

About what a blog can do that this forum can't....

A blog is for article length posts for people who have something elaborate or significant to say (and want such posts to be preserved and displayed more prominently for others to read later, rather than be subsumed in a deluge of replies as would happen in a forum). Here the view of the author is given prominence, the idea is not primarily to discuss with everyone else.

Here in the forum we post one line statements or short paragraphs and the system follows a discussion format, and normally everyone has an equal say on the topic.

A blog is like inviting select panelists to give a lecture on a topic to an audience, with the members asking questions at the end.
A forum is like having a group discussion with 100 other participants, all sharing their views on a topic at the same time with equal prominence.

VKailsam,
If you want to find one, go to the review of Amrutha Murali's concert at Nadasurabhi, and you will find a link to Braindrain's (K.P.Jayan) blog.

Srkris Sir,

Today only I visited this thread. I have not received the email with login details. Please send/resend.

Also, I was surprised to note the missing 'Speculation Vs Realty' thread of Sri Chitraveena Ravikiran in the general discussions. Please restore this important thread.

It's so overwhelming to see plenty of youngsters attending concerts today . Although they are quite choosy it is indeed commendable that youngsters today inspite of their other agenda through the day and school attend concerts , take notes, compare the concerts with the previous ones and have a discussion with their mothers ,sisters-------
The funny part was when the concert doesn't fit their taste they scrunch their noses and start wriggling till their accompanist agrees to leave.

Hi friends
I am a new member in this forum and wd like to interact on different matters.
To start with - a CD and a book containing the compositions of Smt. Kalyani varadarajan is proposed to be released in the Cleveland Tyagaraja festival on 26th March. Sri R. Surya Prakash of Chennai has sung 7 kritis for the CD. Each one has been rendered with great care and full devotion to the raga , sahitya and laya. It is a fulfilling rendition and each piece has been dully justified. His handling of Bhavani kritii is outstanding so as the nalikanthi kriti with chittaswaram and madyamakala. Main piece in Kamboji has an in depth feeling both in raga and the kriti. 2 kritis in Bhahudari on Lord Venkateswara and in behag on Panchamukha maruthi are new kritis added. Overall all the kritis are very well projected by the musician. Kudos to him.
