Excellent concert. One of my new acquisitions is a Bose bluetooth speaker. Used it to get the audio to the ground floor from the first floor computer such that all family members can enjoy. The fidelity of the speaker also accentuated the purity of the voice as well as instruments, esp. percussion.

Going backwards the kedaragowla swarams were very impressive - not many would attempt a detailed rendition, except perhaps jambavaans like sri.mdr.

Hindolam song was a real beauty.

Lathangi swarams were once again a masterpiece. I think swarams is AV's strong point.

Karaharapriya - brief ragam - Violin stretched it more. Anand was quite good and melodious throughout the concert.

BC Manjunath is getting better day by day. Unlike the foreign influence of some other artists, BCM appears to be learning the good aspects from his international counterparts. Omkar is also a a full grown musician. Good team.

The hall was teeming with rasikas. There were chairs outside too. The average age of the audience was 55+. I counted >120 in attendance. The prime audience for Amrutha were her mother and the Prince. I wondered if her song Rama née Samanamevaru was obliquely in his praise!

The mike settled down by the time SAmagAnalOle was sung. This song at once demonstrates GNB's compositional skills and intimacy with HindOla. A great, great song!

I left before the post Tani segment.

I think Amrutha is a great package: a combination of imagination, delightful swara dialogue and voice modulation too. She sang in so many ways, with Brigas, with soft flat notes, with glides from Pa to upper Ri, Ni to upper Pa, with felicity. She sang so many vainika gamakas.

She pronounces words with a deep sense of "friendship" with the sAhitya.
She chose a good mix of talas, ragas, composers, and pieces. RakshamAm, the NATa piece was splendid, alas the mike didn't capture it well.

Thanks to Ananya for a great concert.

Shaale seems to be doing a great job. I had a few fellow rasikas watching it on the web, and we were exchanging notes throughout!

Glad to hear about the wonderful concert of Amrutha Venkatesh. Could not watch the live webcast as I had to go out. I think the violinist is Anand Viswanathan of Mumbai.

Punarvasu,
I could only see the beginning of the concert, Amrutha singing the varNam in her
sweet voice and now, on youtube, her virutham and PD's ranga banda.

Since I had turned on the streaming yesterday from the very start, I also saw our Sappri introducing the artistes :)

Post thani the kannada song "ULLavaru sivaalaya" will make our eyes go moist. Fantastic. I do not know if it is madhuvanti or madhukaus or what. Is this on you tube? Sweetsong or/alias/and rasikapriya can probably clarify

I heard on the web and to me her singing seemed to have azhuttham and other qualities, which some time ago were said to be missing in her concert by some rasikas. Her singing also was different from Rama Varma's.

Right. The weight of her academy prize created enough 'azhuttham' for such "azhuttham" discussions to go away. There is some use for these prizes after all!

VK and others,
Certainly azhuttam discussion was giving two varied points of sureshvv and harimau. In general please also pay attention to who are all possible contestants for a given prize slot.

In sub-senior female Trivandrum Dr Baby Sriram, Usha padmanabhan and akkarai sisters were three female subjunior vocalists who did not get prize. The remaining two female artists who sang and got prizes are sangeetha swaminathan and amrutha venkatesh.

Sangeetha swaminathan finished with best vocal for the team(IIRC)) and amrutha venkatesh finished with best female subjunior outstanding vocalist. In general for the last 4 years i am guessing the sub-senior artist prizes , though not posting as a post , with just 14 of them participating and with male and female segregation , to me personally it is becoming very easy to say who would get the prize even before the season starts at times just looking at the schedule.

The real fight is for senior artists where it is 1 out of 42 (remember even morning artist is considered since NSG got it few years back after singing in morning slot).

Nevertheless not to take anything from young amrutha venkatesh- like her sowkhyam .In my opinion she can pay bit more attention at times varying tempo - but definitely a very enjoyable musician who is making her mark. :ymapplause:

Thanks Rajesh for your constructive comments. Agree as well. Some people sure do have Van Gogh's ear for music. The ability to use your verbal skills constructively or otherwise can make you either the life of the party or a Blooper.

SIMPLY AMAZING CONCERT RIGHT FROM THE MOHANAM VARNAM.
Only set-back was the mike.
Thulasi Bilva was sung so well. No one sings this Kedaragowla masterpiece nowadays.
