I saw this in Facegook:
"Anil Srinivasan, who started Rhapsody Music Foundation to help underprivileged children learn music, narrates how he became a classical pianist after doing a Master’s in Business Management in the US..."

Re: Anil Srinivasan
I like the fact that he is taking Carnatic music out there to the underprivileged. Its a genuine passion. Carnatic music needs to expand to grow. I don't know when it got narrowed down into the Brahmin circle...the community intellectualized and brahminised the art form.
Many teachers - and I know quite a few - mouth ideals but target only the rich/nri population or foreigners to teach. In the name of cultural torchbearers, all they do is act as brokers - bridge nri/foreigners with local musicians (and take money or other favors from both). And most of them don't know the basics of music but keep :-@ and selling themselves or their teaching schools only.

In Kerala we have Christians and lower caste individuals having Masters from Swathi Thirunal Music College teach Brahmins and other groups CM. Only State which did not confine CM to brahmins only, IMHO.

Nice to read Mr. Raman's post.
TMK mentioned an incident in A Keral concert of his, when a lad entered smoking (a beedi), an unconventional listener at CM. He sat through Kambhodhi raga being sung, said, 'good Kambodhi', placed Rs.10 on the dais and went away.
