Today, May 4th, is the day Saint Tyagaraja was born in the year 1767.
I am very glad to share a new Navaraga Malika Varna I composed sometime back, on this very special day.
The Varna is set in the following 9 ragas which were all brought to live by Tyagaraja
Pallavi: Vagadhishwari
Anupallavi: Bindumalini
Chitteswara: Andolika and Rasali
Charana: Saraswati
Ettugade swaras: Jayantashri, Saraswati Manohari, Chandrajyoti and Ranjani.
The poorvanga of the Varna take the lines of the well known samskrta shloka about Saraswati (namastE shAradA dEvi)
The charana employs rAgamudra and addresses Goddess Saraswathi as one who is dear to Tyagaraja (Saraswathi shubhadE! TyagarAjApte)
