A close to 4 hrs ( 3.55) marathon concert .

She was still fresh when she sang mangalam.She commented she could go on for another half hour

It was a sincere from the heart concert.
Sticking to padhati all songs were played melodiously.
Aalaps for Reethi gowlai saveri and karaharapriya were soothing. So were the songs rendered,
She could have announced the songs before she sang.

Sanjeev for second day in succession was wonderful - his alaaps were wonderful so was his swara returns
Shertalaia and krishnaswamy gave good support never overshadowing Mala with their playing.

They were sedate correctly allowing flute to dominate.

Thani was a bit long but then they also have to get time i felt.

An earnest sincere melodious concert.

Personally I started attending direct and live flute concerts bit late , most of them were from ramani and few more flautist all in chennai . Most of the concerts would be 2 hours or may be max another 15 min extension . I have heard mali thru writings that he used to play long duration concerts .

I was thinking unlike vocal artist, you need more stamina , power etc to go beyond 2 hrs and 30 mins . To go with saveri r n s , then a grand cakkani raja rnst , then a pallavi in shankarabharanam with ragamaliga swaras in the same concert is too good. I remember in the last year or two , there was a report of another 4 hour concert by vidushi mala.I have not heard sikkil sisters or mala chandrasekhar . But for a single flautist to give a concert for 4 hours is just an incredible achievement.

Might have been the house concert at Veena J&J's place. She arrived quite late, and very humbly and sincerely said she would try to make it up to us. I don't think she meant to play for four hours, but the music flowed and flowed, and she had no intention of stopping it. Absolute magic.

... As was her last concert that I attended here, at RS Hall just recently.

once i heard mala in chennai at mylapore. Her shankarabharanam is still fresh in my mind. such a nice flow of melody and strict adherence to sampradayam !
