Re: Sakethraman for NZCMS 31/5/14
I have been hearing SR for the last 5 years or so. It was great to hear him on home ground. It was a precise, professional first concert on NZ soil. He picked popular iritis and played the crowd expertly. Pantuvarali at No 2 is always pleasing and SR did justice to it with some brisk KS as well. Where he came into his own was with S.Dhanyasi ragam and song. When he settled down to an elaborate Thodi alapana, my mind flew back to some 3 years ago where he rendered a faultless 'Dachukova' with all the frills. Thaye Yasoda came close.
The brisk KS for Kannada confirmed to me that he is the 'master of arai-avardhanam swarams' with all the sulukkam-nunukkam of LGJ himself. With my mind hitched to the MFAC concert a while back, I was expecting an RTP in Behag, but Desh it was. And lovely it was. Picking 2 well-hashed thukkadas- Theeratha of LGJ fame and Tirupathi (I'm used to TMK singing it in Sindhubhairavi) he gave it his spin. Kudos. Thillana as expected.
I have never heard Sampath. He kept pace comfortably with the flow and played a lovely Desh alapana. Bhoopathy Sir of course steady as a rock.
Great start.

MV,
Good to hear from you!
A thODi handled well gives substance to a concert, no doubt. Saketaraman is one of the young singers who holds a lot of promise to be a front liner in the near future.

Saw your post on TMK's song list. Some favorites of mine there, and of course, I found them in proper TMK order. Waiting for your review.

MV, thanks for your review. It is amazing that these musicians are in one continent one day and a different one shortly after!
Just like our rasikas
I took look forward to the December season already, and seeing all of you again

Yes, the other MV
It is amazing how these musicians arrive one night and sing an intense 3 hour concert the next day. Will be good to catch up with again
