Lalgudi sister Smt. Padmavathy Ananthagopalan, a vainika holds the concert in this sabha at annanagar . They hold it in three places in chennai -40.The most happening place is a chinmaya school , another an ayyappan temple and the other is a marriage hall named PSB hall almost at the end of annanagar where it meets annanagar west depot. I have been once to this psb hall when I heard a concert of another vidwan and like that concert , this concert was equally memorable . The very fact you see so many kids who are learning from vidushi padmavathy listening seated in a jamakalam where their Guru gently coerces them to listen itself a fantastic thing. CM needs intelligent and may be a forced coercion for many of us take up as rasikas.
As i entered with my aging maternal grandmother , she walked slowly the sowrashtram was already on- hold on it was not pavamana but sooryamoorthE. The swaras were bit measured and i settled to a fullstop in seat when the commas #2 was on. Sujana jeevana krithi in kamas is rare and I felt vijay was driving in with his krithi paddanthara approach of enunciation with right muse.
The first most noticable excellence of vijay came with anandabhairavi , not just the alapana but a splendid muse full of konjal from violinist . The krithi mariverE was excellent . The next shurutti was bit of a dip his usual thinning voice did not that suit that well the gamaka extra shuruttal of shurutti , the neraval was nice .
kalyani was very well done , he took his time and touched with lot of well rehearsed brighas and kalyani indeed was musically intact without a sag. He sang this rare krithi of MV and I liked the neraval and swaras , may be swaras were bit measured but that is what is DKJ school's usual constraint.

7.RTP in kApi for 24 mins
6 mins alapana and 3 mins violin return
taanam for 7 mins
pallavi with swararagamaliga for 8 mins
pIthAmbaradhAra priya nAyikam mAmpathu?? rAdhikA
8A. viruththam - pArkkum thisai thOrum - bilahari +
malaiyan thEda marai thEda - Ahiri +
malaiyan thEda marai thEda - mukhAri
8B. sivakAma sundari - mukhAri - psivan
9. dAsarendaraa purandaradAsarayyA - yadhukula kAmbOdhi- vyasatirtha??
10. tungA teera virAjam - yamunakalyani - kamalesha vittala
11. agaramum Adhi - ???? - thirruppugazh
12. pavamAna + swasthi prajipadayA
After kalyani , he sang a very short kapi pallavi . I would never complain when there is a pallavi in kApi . His voice was beaten enough till kalyani and he kept up the kapi pleading muse . Taanam was very well done not metered with mrudangam (I have so far not heard a mridangam metered taanam of vijay) but his extra caution and spacing did indeed produce a very aesthetic muse in pallavi . The pallavi lines hAD AN intelligence too the last and first phrase radhikA and pIthamabara had the word kApi in it. That was Lovely.
Vijay muse continued wonderfully in viruththam and the mukhari end with sivakama sundari was lovely. Vijay is a lovely mukhari singer .He always spreads with multiple languages the kannada language came in dasarendara in yadukula kambodhi which was not that appealing to me. THe but last tunga teera in yamuna kalyani was enjoyable , though maharajapuram santhanam in salakabhairavi and ahirbhairav was miles ahead in muse for the same krithi tungAteera.
The thamizh dose of excess words which many of us call it as thirruppugazh just went in a jiffy , i did not enjoy that much more words but less music , one cannot blame vijay for it.
The violinist Dr hemalatha is certainly a rare gem . Her control and melody was lovely, with ananda bhairavi she pleaded with melody, with kalyani a rightful aggression and a kapi was a concotion of the two , she is certainly wonderful and very underrated artist. Manoj siva played very well for most of the songs , at times i miss an aggression quotient ,nevertheless did lift the concert.Tani was just there i found few strokes of aggression in middle but overall ok.
Vijay in general has a sure paddandhara suddham and that is his USP, a certain feeling of why he did not go longer in swaras or neraval was there , ofcourse i have that in general with his guru DKJ too. All said and done his sincerity of presenting a very paddandara sampradaya sangeetham was a head turner for me. The trek to annanagar to hear vijay was worth it , despite the metro rail construction route, thank god the concert started at 06:15 pm (advertised at 06:00 pm, there was another musician singing before).
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 45 mins.

Thanks, Rajesh. Sounds like a great concert!
11 would be agaramumAgi adipanumAgi adigamumAgi agamAgi. It is a tiruppugazh typically sung in jaganmOhini.
