"All are welcome, especially children" - Are there children performing too or any children's activity?

This is a community event that we organize annually during Guru Poornima, featuring music teachers from the local music community in and around the Bellandur/Outer Ring Road/Koramangala area of Bangalore. At the end of each Guru's performance, the students (mostly children) will offer tamboolam to the Guru, on behalf of Ranjani Fine Arts(RFA).

Children are always welcome at RFA's programmes, and particularly so at community events like our Guru Utsava, where they get exposed to several styles of music by different Gurus in a single day. Vaggeyakara Utsava, our other big community event, which we conduct in January, features performances by students of various music schools in the neighbourhood.

Great initiative. Hope the Carnatic portion went off well. I was to go in the morning. But could not make it. Maybe a bit lucky, too, as I was told that it started late and I had planned to be there for the first 1.5 hrs only.

All the best for the hindusthani section tomorrow.

Mrs Sumitra Nitin, Bhagyalakshmi maami and Shri RSR Srikanth stood out during the second half of Carnatic Session

The Andolika and Kapi from maami - it was so moving...

Accompaniment by Shri RSR Srikanth was outstanding, especially for the Veena. He could successfully put the UKS patterns in style which is actually very difficult. The landing points of each sequence of patterns had absolute perfection and his strong grip on the kAlapramanam was evident.

The audience thinned towards the end of the sessions.

Overall a good ambience.

Thanks

Sri.RSR Srikanth is an A grade artist of AIR. Very kind of him to have helped out on an informal music programme like this.

KSSR, there was nothing informal about the concerts :-). Despite the short duration ( 30minutes), every artist (or teacher I should say), taken up this very seriously and presented brilliantly. Sumitra Nitin, Bhagyalakshmi Chandrasekharan, Chitra Srikanth, Priyasri Rao .... each of them whom RSR Srikanth accompanied presented very good concerts.

This was never an unofficial event.... hope RFA people are listening.... was it an informal event????

I would say this is a miniature of Guruvayur Chembai Annual Festival (Ekaadashi Festival).

There you have performers at all levels giving their bit in a 5-7 minute interval. Professionals get 15-30 minutes. In RFA professionals and "almost professionals" are given equal time (of course professionals have the liberty to exceed or chose their time-slot ;).. which is OK ) I am hoping that the charm will last in the coming editions as well...

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Ranjani Fine Arts' program framework broadly consists of 3 categories : "Enable" "Educate" and "Access". In other words,
- to Enable local (south east Bengaluru) talent to hone their music skills. eg. the 30-min children's programs prior to each monthly concert
- to facilitate programs which Educate the community. eg. lec-dems and workshops
- to provide the community with easy Access to top class music performances. eg. music concerts

All programs at RFA are equally important. While many of our programs may typically emphasize one of the above 3 categories, we are very happy and fortunate to see that some of our programs end up covering more than one category. Guru Utsava is one such example : this is a big community event which brings local music talent under one roof, and also witnesses top class music performances by participating Gurus and artistes.

We sincerely thank all teachers, artistes, students, rasikas and volunteers who participated in Guru Utsava 2014, and made it such a memorable experience. We will be uploading some photos and a writeup of the event shortly on our website.
