rithvik raja and ramakrishna murthy are two of my favourites and i am glad i was able to catch both of them on consecutive weekends. they both seem to be singing very often in chennai. rithvik is rising fast in the ladder to the top and is doing very well for himself by delivering succesful concerts one after the other. he also seems to have worked hard on his voice because it sounded very soothing and pleasing and had great range. he held shruthi perfectly throughout and that added to the overall experience of the concert with a tuned manual thambura that seems to have become a rarity. the thing i like most is his choice of raagams which are very classical. one thing he seems to have imbibed from his teacher sri tmk is the raaga bhaavam which comes to him effortlessly. my pick of the concert would be his singing of the swarajathi and the kedaragowlai which evoked lots of appreciation from the audience. the endaro mahanubhavulu was rendered in a unhurried pace and was sung with respect rather than the usual fast thundering of swarams and words. i was looking forward to a few more pieces after the thani avarthanam but time was less thanks to a speech for 10 minutes in between by the organiser in reading out a profile of all the artists and encouraging members to come sooner which was unnecessary imho.

the accompanists for the day were s.varadarajan, j.vaidhyanathan and anirudh atreya. varadarajan was exemplary throughout the concert and provided great support. not sure if he has played for rithvik before but they seemed to share very good rapport and he seemed to genuinely enjoy rithviks music. j.vaidhyanathan and anirudh atreya were amazing in keeping the momentum alive and made sure the music was highlighted. it is a healthy sign that such senior and seasoned artistes are willing to play along with youngsters like ram and rithvik on a regular basis, also says a little something about the two youngsters.

it was almost a full hall in spite of a few light showers. this seems to be the only music sabha for people in kotturpuram and that side of town so it was very well attended and people stayed till the very end. such organisations need to be supported for their wonderful work in encouraging good music.
