Thanks to Parivadini, I got a chance to listen to another of Bharathi's performances. Her concert link is available at

I am always a big admirer of her music, her open throated singing and the range that she of octaves that she can traverse with ease. I've been listening to her for the last few years and she seems to just keep getting better.
The theme was Shaktee and Bharathi had put together an interesting selection of krithis for this. Her second piece was varali - an excellent and crisp ragam followed by karuna joodavamma. Her neraval for this krithi was very good. This was followed by an ashtapathi in mukhari that was sung at a leisurely pace with poise and emotion. After a Vande Mataram that followed, she started her main - meenakshi memudam. Again, a brilliant and detailed ragam in poorvikalyani before the krithi. This was followed by shlokam in sahana and palisamma muddu sharade
The last song was a Bengali song by Tagore - hey nuton. It was an apt choice to end the concert leaving me want to listen to more of her music. This song provided her with ample scope of demonstrating her prowess at the upper octaves. I have heard a recording of MSS sing this earlier. Bharathis rendition of this was a befitting end to the concert
All in all I enjoyed listening to the concert. I also appreciate the audio quality that parivadini is uploading these days. Many congratulations to them as well!

Re: Bharathi Ramasubban at Oli chamber concert - 2 october
This was a great concert, and I felt that I was able to enjoy her voice in a way that is just not possible with speakers and PA systems.
She projects her voice, both when singing and talking. She really communicates with her audience. It is true that I was sitting only a few feet in front of her, but I am sure that those much further away in that large room would also have heard her perfectly.
She told me that yes, she was taught to sing like that. What a difference this is to those who sing as if they were born with a microphone in front of their nose!
The other artists kept a good balance, controlling their volume levels perfectly.
Technically, it was one of the best no-speakers concerts in the now-25-programs-old Oli series.
Technical issues aside, it was also am amazingly beautiful concert, sung wonderfully, and well presented with clear and useful commentary on the theme. I am so glad that Oli have begun their concerts again, and I am so glad that I was at this one. My bones quite forgot that they are no longer used to two-plus hours sitting cross-legged: the music made me float
The last song was very sweet. I suppose I must have heard Tagore lyrics before, and I must have heard songs in Bengali, but I was able to appreciate on this occasion in a way that I had not done before. I was able to enjoy the sound of the language and get an idea of why it is loved by its fans! I also felt that there was a clue in the nuances of Bharathi's delivery of this piece that she would also be a superb Hindustani singer.
Oli Chamber Concerts will now resume in January 2015.
