Yesterday they began a series heralding the monsoon. After a fine intro by Anu, Sriram played seven sketches of the various Malhar family ragas - Megh-, Miyan ki-, Adana-, Gaud-, Desh-, Ramdassi-,Sur-, all in a masterly way. He also spoke and sang them later to explain the point. Anu urged viewers to take notes on paper!
Then Anu sang a Tamil film song- a duet between Yesudas and Chitra where he keeps asking her to fetch the umbrella as it is going to rain.
Then Sriram sang a Thyagaraja song in Amritha varshini, addressed to Mother : Sarasiruhanayane (misattributed?) it has a googly chitteswara and raga name in a predominantly Sanskrit lyric, which smacks of a HMB type of composition style.
I look forward to the remaining episodes as much as I look forward to rains.
Sriram and Anuradha are absolutely excellent at what they do and communicate very well. Sriram is multidimensional - Violin, vocal, HM and CM.

Kudos to DD Podhigai!
