10B. tani for 10 mins

11A viruttam "nanmaiyUm selvamum" - dEsh - kambar
11B rAmA nAmamE - dEsh - Thanjavur SankAra Iyer
12. raama raama raama raaraa seetha - senchuruTTi - T
13. mAmava pattabhi - maNirAngu - MD

Late by about 10 minutes when I just heard the second half of dinamani vamsa. From 6:40 to 7:40 Pm I heard 8 krithis with one viruttam , felt there were just too many numbers in the early part of the concert which made the concert not too appealing most of the time. In particular I liked her SAveri viruttam and yAro Ivar yArO in SAveri(IIRC brinda muktha used to sing yArO ivar yArO in sAveri) . The rare kOkilaravam and hamsanAdam was very nice.

I was expecting a very vistAramAna kharaharapriya , but did not hear much in line with my expectation . Liked her viruththam and TSI's popular rAma nAmamE was ok . SenchuruTTi was ok and the last mAmava pattabhi in maNirAngu was sung with the right emotive appeal . Overall looked like the vidushi was caught up with law of average.

VVSR's violin was just good.THe mrudangam artist played very well(very good nAdham and strokes),was ably supported by the ghatam artist(I am not sure of his name, I think he is madipakkam murali?? or adambakkam shankar???).

yArO Ivar yArO is this the same krithi that is sung in Bhairavi as well? I've heard yester year singers sing it in Bhairavi.

MaheshS, that is correct. The song has been popularized in the Bhairavi version by MSS among others. However, I have heard that Yaaro Ivar Yaaro was composed by AK in Saveri in his original RamanAtakam. People from the S. Ramanathan school (Sowmya etc) and TNS school (GG included) usually sing it in Saveri.

IIRC, Ariyakudi was the first to break the traditon of retuning and singing yArO ivar YArO in bhairavi

Correct. Smt. Vedavalli and her disciples sing it in sAvEri.

Yes Prashant,

RV and disciples sing it in Saveri only . Incidentally it is not to be pronounced as 'yaro'
It is "ARO" , as in Tamil the ya sound does not exist. aroenrennamalle, this is how it should be produced. RV amma repeatedly keeps telling about this.

Saveri,
I agree that it was originally written as ArO, and I have heard Nityashree sing it as such, and I can tell you that it is jarring! But then, that is my opinion. My all time favorite is DKP's version in bhairavi sung as yArO, ivar yArO?

ய "ya" as a sound exists in tamizh. Saveri, I'm not sure what you mean.
