It was a transformative evening. Presenting a beautiful bouquet of pieces - from Enneramum in Devagandhari, to Theruvil Varano in Khamas, to the poignant and highly beautiful Hari Tum Haro in Darbari.
Gurucharan and Anil have stuck with each other for eight years now, and the blend and attention to detail shows. Their synchronisation with the Dhananjayans truly seems game changing. All the best for their Washington DC premiere next week. Do see the link below.

Rather than get into a slanging match on why the piano is or isn't suited, I'd take the liberty of asking if anyone can ask AS to perhaps interact with the forumites and explain his fascinating process of working on the instrument within the Indian context. I for one would be happy to learn.

Unfortunately, this program didn't work for me
I just could not get any joy out of watching three good artists trying to come together...i think none of them could shine in their respective area of expertise.
Good to keep experimenting - but this one didn't click for me.
I am looking forward to the next few days of BSU - rains permitting!!!

I am surprised you felt that way pperumal. I loved it, and I felt most of the audience too. A lot of depth and tremendous sensitivity. Especially the Darbari portions where Shri Dhananjayan was accompanied by just the solo piano, and Gurucharan's superlative singing. I actually felt the exact opposite of what you did

To me, this has so far been the best program in this year's BSU. For one thing, the singing sans percussion was so soothing. Normally not a dance fan, what with my limited attention span for visuals/movies etc., I found the Dhananjayans' abhinayam captivating. The overall effect of Gurucharan's singing, Anil's Piano and the expressive & lively dance movements was sheer magic.

Sridhar,
You reflect my thoughts! Like you, I do not know dance that much. I would have liked to have been at this program, especially when the veteran dancers were taking part.
Percussion has its own appeal of course, and yet when I heard Anil Srinivasan and Gurucharan together and also Anil teaming with others, I found it to be a very pleasing experience.
