The first of its kind for them (singing together) as well as for this year BGS 2014.
The first turned to be the best . Right through the two hours both of them sung in tandem
Their alapanas and swaras were simply brilliant.
a. Begada and Swarajathi Yadukula Kambhoji were class
b. The jewel in crown was however their RTP Kanada (malayamArutam, Dhenuka, bahudAri, janaranjani)
The songs covered by them were

Re: Rithvik Raja, Prasanna Venkatraman –Vocal-Bharath Sangee
Bhaskaran,
Thank you for the review.
It's heartening to know that students of two star performers got together and gave a concert as a duo! It's encouraging to see them come together, just when a few fans take it upon themselves to create a feeling as if the two vocalists are opposite numbers! It shows broad mindedness both on the part of the gurus and their students, no matter what the differences between their ideas on music and its presentation.
On a personal note, thanks to the rasikA who sent me the youtube clip this morning of TMK speaking in Anwesha 2014, part 5 (the Indra Sivasailam award event).
I go back many years to Sanjay's long kAlachuvaDu interview which I translated in Rasikas (2006?).
Both speak of the Tyagabharathi movement started decades ago by Prof. V.V.Sadagopan and later propagated by his disciple Sriram Bharathi which inspires children to love CM and sing it happily to meaningful lyrics. Jai joy! being the mantra. I couldn't help mentioning it because V.V.S's centenary is coming up in February 2015

Long time back Sanjay Subramaniam and P Unnikrishnan sang a private concert to the accompaniment of Vittal Ramamurthy/ R Kshriram kumar and Myself/ Arunprakash. Not only this Shri R T Chari's residence used to host a great number of concerts those days and during one of those concerts Shri O S Thiagarajan and Shri Neyveli Santanagopalan sang some beautiful compositions.
This is just to highlight the two tangential schools coming together for the sake of Music.
A nice trend though.

Maestros of two bani performing together, is not new. Many performances had taken place e.g. Maharajapuram Santhanam and Trichur Ramachandran.
