Amazing. Can i request for a Mohanakalyani..."Sangeetha Samrajya.." sung by Suryaprakash. This raga is his specialty... My best wishes for the occasion.

I saw a clipping of a programme to be telecast tonight sunday 9.30pm in PODHIGAI TV by name thullAda manamum thullum on old film songs, where I saw SuryprakAsh singing GNB's virutham in kambodhi from the movie sakunthalai. I adore GNB's rendition (what a manly voice does GNB have) for that viruththam. The program is to be repeated on Monday morning too. IIRC , I have heard a story that a nAdaswara vidwan saw the movie many many times to learn the kambOdhi sangathi.

Another date to look forward to.
However lazy I may be about getting out of the house for the rest of the month, these dates are musts!
How nice that we shall be experiencing this program in the house of a musician, Sri Manakkal Rangarajan --- and, having had some conversation with him at the last program, I'm glad we will be meeting again so soon.

I request all chennai based rasika.orgites to attend this program. The program will be a double bonanza. In addition to the concert we have a rare oppurtunity to interact with a legend. Sriram has posted a personal invitation in another thread.
Active participation from forum members is the only incentive for coolkarni to take such efforts to organise these monthly programs. Please do attend .

I can sum up the concert with the words total satisfaction --- a fine feast.
The Manakkal family certainly made us most welcome, even making me tea as I can't drink coffee. Their beautiful house in a beautiful street was a great concert venue. I don't know how full the main part of the room was, (I found myself a corner where I could stretch my legs out without pointing my feet at anyone and was most comfortable) but it seemed very accommodating.
It was the amazing team work of carnatic music that was one of its early charms for me, and the concert seemed to me to be a prime example --- no, a really top example --- of this. The sympathy between the three artist was so superb that I really felt that whenever we applauded, even if it was for some 'solo' element, that we were applauding all three artists.
Shankarnarayanan's ability to fortell exactly what would come next meant that he was almost always following the other artists' calculations in kalpana swara, and when he played sarva laghu It was for balance.
Even after the 'main piece' I could have gone home with no complaints whatsoever, and the concert length would have been typical if he had just sung one or two short pieces after that.
But there was yet a Ragam Tanam Pallavi to come! Furthermore, it was an RTP with an extended and beautiful T.

No problem at all! A good feast should be eaten slowly!
In the meantime it will be nice to hear from the attendees their experience and enjoyment. It was nice to hear from Nick who is graduating fast. If I may say so, we are having another Higgins in the making!
CM has to be enjoyed in company. Do share the joy of that company with us cyberfolks (as Jayaram would say the chitchats and even the 'catcalls'
that was part of the evening! We are all ears!

videos just arrived. I tried converting to .flv format to save on time.but one look at the .flv video and was convinced that it was not worth depriving you all ,of the best experience possible.
So here we go , at my turtle speed.with the mpeg format.
Will start the uploads tonight and finish by saturday.

Videography
We have been working with one person -Phillip- who is slowly getting hooked in by the atmosphere of these concerts - and has resolved to find better and better ways of capturing the intricate moments in the performance.
In case you all find the audio - as heard in the video clips - OK , then we can cut down on the activity of recording the concerts on tape and on mp3.And save some Money.
We have been following a practice of gifting the master copies of the cds as well as the video tapes to the main artist , as a gift.
I will be maintaining the master copies and members who visit Chennai are free to ask me for copies.
For the next concert , is there a member in Chennai with faster upload facilities , who can share the burden of uploading these bigger video files.I can reach out the copies to the designated person , next time.

Remember this?
Rapidshare can be tiresome to use for free users like myself.
jayaram
Most of us here, including moi, do no have a premium account, we just patiently wait and d/l. (meantime u can listen /enjoy the clips that u have downloaded)
If u are not aware u/l a file takes longer time, then one to d/l.
So one must appreciate and be thankful that the uploader is taking their time to share the gems with us.
Lets NOT complain!

What is ok for the goose aint ok for the gander!
We need a meta-moderator, atleast for those mods who's names dont start with a "k" or a "c"....

since VK mentioned the prob. he faced, only then did i ask kji to swtich.Kji, I got the files OK from badongo. Meena, on my first try I got only the partial files but upon second try I got the full 63 Meg each. If badongo continues to be a problem for these two files, I can upload them to sendspace, so Kji can work on files 3 and beyond.
AND i did mention the sever-badongo must be busy, shall try next day!!!
