Thanks to TMK for coming back to Chennai after a long tour.

It was surprising to see the advertisement “a Speical concert” of TMK & team under the auspices of Brahma gana sabha at Petachi Auditorium, (as advertised The Hindu). Truly a pleasant surprise.

I was having two mind whether to attend Veteran & Kalanidhi TV Shankaranarayanan or TM Krishna and at last opted for the latter.

After having attended the concert, I wanted to make a pallavi, in line with Arunkumar’s “pAvayin pArvayai…….” (refer review by Rsachi)
“KrishnAvin gAnamurthathil karaindu urugiNen – gopikaYAi.”

Total delightful Music-Kudos to the artist.

I always have immense faith in TMK. Few times, he let me down especially in MFAC concert, where he rendered mukhari (hree songs) continuously. Faith as defined by “St. Augustine- “Faith is to believe what you do not see, and the reward of this faith is to see what you believe”. (This was illustrated in the last para of Bhaja Govindham by Swami Chinmayananda)
2 and half hours of sheer delight. A memorable musical journey .

• Patti viduvarAdhU- manjari –Thyagarajar
Neraval in “nityAnitya mulanu bOdhinci krtyAkrtya mulanu delpinci”
He again started the swaram in patti viduvarAdhu”
My comments- reminded me of SSI’s concert. Well rendered. Good start of high octave kriti.

• rAgam HarikAmbodhi followed by tAnam in Harikambodhi, Saranga and kAmbodhi and reverse by Sriramkumar.

My comments- each and every pallavi and changeover to saranga and kambodhi put the entire pallavi darbAr at its esteem. Sriramkumar never accepts defeat. He always goes one up. He reversed the way in which TMK rendered. Great combination.

• TMK asked RKS to play a rAgam in violin. He started dEvagAndhari and as I was praying, he took another SSI’s gem “vinarAdhanA manavi”. Neraval in “bhAgadEya vaibhOga ranga shrI” and continued Swaram in the same line.

My comments- RKS violin solo had nothing left in the rAgam. He soaked honey in his bow. TMK, in between, got inspired in the mridhangam-Ganjira duo and asked them to play a 2 mintues “mini Tani”.

• mukAri- kArubAru sEyuvAru-another Thyagaraja praising his kingdom of Ayodhya. Neraval in “sAdhu thyagarAjA vinutha rAmA”

My comments- Amazing mukhAri. It may be of 4-5 minutes rendering and no violin return and straight away plunged into praising rAmA and revetting finish by praising thyagaraja too in the neraval.

• Nidhi chAla sukhamA – kalyAni. Here, he took neravl in “nija mukha palku manasA”, instead of usual “mamata bandana”

My comments – crisp kalyAni

Tani- well done by both. Alathur seems to be having upperhand because of his experience but Praveen was steady and made the Tani a worth for the concert of this quality.

vadaninE- kApi- jAvali
It was the song of the day. -SSI touch. He rendered a 2 minutes continuous swaram.
Beautiful sanchAram of kApi.

rAmachandra krupAlu- Tulsidas-bhajan
Vritham in surutti- mARRamillA pasum poNNE.....followed by pavamAna

Mangalam in surutti.

Special concert because of (may be)

RKS sitting next him, kanjira to his left and mridangam to his right. Giving equal status to RKS, (by making him to sit) may be new to cheenaities. – “yAr taruvAr indha ariyAsanam”- to RKS was good start for a concert like this.

He did not venture in to his old habit of rAgam, another rAgam in violin, kriti in third rAgam.

He rendered all Thyagaraja kritis, long unheard from any artist.

He wore black shirt matching the curtains behind !!!

Sum up:

Almost crowd enjoyed each and every kriti and of course, standing ovation.
TMK has become irresistible to me.

This concert was arranged on short notice , only saw in page 4 engagement yesterday. I am assuming this is a free concert (confirm if it is free or paid concert , and if ticketed what was the minimum price).Tx for your review.

Was there a pallavi after the ragam and thanam in Harikambodi, Saranga and Kambodi. If so, what was the pallavi?

It was a free concert.

No pallavi. Straight to violin to start DevagAnadhAri.

I saw the "usual" fourth page of "The hindu" was surprised. My TVS plan to go to BVB was changed. Rsachi's "music in heaven" aslo inspired me. Especially the pallavi !!!!
