The Technique of Parur tradition at P S Sabha on 18 12 2014

The lec dem started at 08 30 hrs. She was supported by Shri TR Sundaresan on mirudhangam
Some of the interesting points are given below.

Lakshaya pradhanam is important as per sangeetha sastra in a concert.
The letter Sa refers many things viz sappadu, sadhagam and sanchara
Sanchara is known as apt movement.
Saraswathi dwells on the throat and Lord Shiva on the finger tip.
Parur Tradition started in the year 1912
Sriman Parur Sundaram Iyer was a link between H/M and C/M
Mandhara sadhagam is important in H/M
Hamsadwani was played on both styles since this raga is quite common on both types.
Karakarapriya is associated with Kapi thaat of H/M
Parur Sundaram Iyer was closely associated with all HM musicians
Pundit Omkaranath Tagore, Vinayak , Vishnu Digambar Pattavardhan and Ravishankar to name few.

The following ragas were played on CM style on violin with equivalent H/M on vocal.

Hamsadwani
Kalyani
Durbari Kanada
Sankarabharanam
Atathala varnam by Swatithirunal [ R?]

My observation.

The 75 mts programme was full of anecdotes referred by her grandfather. She has a very pleasant voice and sang the Hindustani pharases attracting rasikas applause. The entire demo in manipravalam of Tamil and Englishe with appropriate references in Sanskrit too. The enitre 75 mts were quite enjoyable. Dr N had a question session also and clarified nicely the doubts raised by the Rasikas. There were 100 rasikas of high calibre. Definitely there can be omissions of some important points and request for corrections.

Dear Thanjavooran, THANKS for bringing out the CRUCIAL&IMPORTANT points described, raised & authoritatively EXPLAINED by DR.M.MN. I have always found her a "NATURAL" EXPERT as opposed to THE USUAL EXPERTS WHO ACTUALLY DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE but "dumb down" the explanations with their own half baked knowledge. With the accumulated knowledge& wisdom of Parur Sundaram Iyer & MSG combined with the BRILLIANCE of DR.M.N. in my opinion there is no one else even close to this TRIO!.....It is a pity that CHENNAI SABHAS & ORGANISATIONS ARE NOT TAKING better Advantage of the accumulated knowledge, experience& wisdom she has accumulated thru' excellent gurus& her own abilities as well as expert& scholarly approach.....I am happy to note that Cleveland Sundaram AS USUAL is way ahead of evcery one else in featuring her in the tribute to the immortal MSG by arranging a tribute to MSG IN THIS YEAR'S FESTIVAL LIKE HE DID LAST YEAR FOR LGJ.
