Re: Mohan Santhanam , 20 dec, MFA
The last item was Chinnam chiru pen pole (popularized by sirgazhi govindarajan), in sindhu bhairavi
I am hearing Mohan Santhanam for first time, he learnt from TRS sir. The music has sowkhyam, vyavaharam as expected... He sang nice swarams for mayamalava gowlai, and good poruthams in abhogi.. Janaranjani alapana had some nice sangathis and detailed... It is not easy to sing ragam, and V L Kumar also acknowledged and said that his job is more challenging to reply back !! Subhapantuvarali was very detailed, and tanam was grand... His voice wasn't in great shape, he sang for few minutes, let violin play, and he continued alapana, few times like this...
Pallavi was grand.... though neraval was brief, he sang ragamalika swaras, and pallavi in same ragam, and each time when he sang pallavi, he did trikalam in ragamalika ragam... This was interesting... When he sang in neelambari, the pallavi was in keezh kalam, for suddha saveri, it was tisram, and for next ragam, it was mel kalam.
Percussion department supported very well... Glad that i attended the concert
