Narada Gana Sabha-Music festival.

Malladi brothers returned after a sudden break in their concert schedule because of gurugAru’s death. I think it is their second concert, first being Parthasarathy swamys Sabha at VidhyabArathy.

How many times we get to see Trichy Sankaran sir accompanying the artist. ? His mridhangam is sunAdham, Lot has been written about him. Deafening claps at the end of his tani was a witness to this. He cannot be compared any of the “today”s vidwan. Let us leave it here.

How many times, we have seen Pazhani school, Paroor school and NedanUri school coming together and provide wonderful alumini ?

How many times, we have heard “tuLasi bilwa”-kEdAragowla mAsterpiece of Saint as Main ?
Malladi, as usual, carried the audience throughout the “2.5 hours musical journey” a remembrance of their Guru nEdanUri gAru. As they said, in between, - “what we sing is only 1% of what our Guru sings. We are fortunate to have such a guru in our life”. They paused for 15 sec before going into the next song. That 15 minutes silence communicated lot of emotions among the audience. They have not recovered from their Guru’s death.

RTP was very short. It was just 12 minutes. They should have planned by singing couple of tukkadAs.
KirvAni ragam was brilliant. Tanam & Pallavi were shorter than rAgam singing time.. "Interesting"

I was wondering that Varali thyagaraja kriti was mentioned as subhapantu varAli. But, they sang in varAli

Each and every kriti was well rendered. Tani was masterly. ParUr was too brilliant. He did not follow like Varadharajan or
Sanjeev. But parUr has got his own way of playing violin. He was too good

emayya rAma- nEdanUri special. This kriti is something special to me. Bhadrachala ramadAs "melting" kriti, well tuned in KambOji by gurukAru and next-gen mallAdi, aptly, remembered by singing.

Thank you for the review. Interesting that you mention Vid. Trichy Sankaran ahead of the violinist in your artist listing. I for one, not complaining at all

But yes, the Malladi-TS combo is a fascinating one for me over the last decade or so, ever since the emergence of the Brothers as Top-ranking artists. Seems to bring the best out of both of them. Eagerly looking forward to their MA concert.

Just curious, did the 15 sec appear like 15 mts ? Or is it really 15 mts?

It was a wonderful tribute to the Guru by their sishyas. An emotional evening adding flavour to the high quality of music that was flowing.

Prof. Trichy Sankaran played the best with no words to describe the gentle / soft touches and not missing the important aspects while playing the Thani or the song.

@grssastriagal -- The RTP was totally around 20 minutes including the alapana , violin return , the thanam with mridangam and the pallavi set to Misra Triupta ( 2kalai). Also inta paraka is by Uma dasar.

Parur & KVG contributed their best in what could be a concert of the season .

We rarely hear Tulasi Bilva (atleast for me the last I heard was the Guru Garu in 2001 at academy) in a concert as main.

It was more of a homage to their guru; the usual gaiety was missing. It was so so only.
