Annamayya Song-uruleni polimera

Post by msk2 »

Pranams.

I was reading a book review of Norton's Anthology of Religion by Wiliam Darlymple (reviewer).
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/21/books ... ume-i.html
and
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/21/books ... me-ii.html

In Vol 1 review he (the reviewer) quoted the following song from Annamayya - I want to now what was the actual song? Better yet a youtube rendition of this song will be nicer

What use is ecstasy

without the agony of separation?

Shade is nothing without the burning sun.

What is patience without the fury of

passion?

Why make anything — love or poetry —

if two can’t be one?

It is a part of the translation of Annamacharya's song
"UrulEni polimEra pEru peMpulEni bratuku".

For the complete translation of the song (by Velcheru Narayana Rao and David Shulman), check this:

For the original in Telugu & its transliteration, please check:-

The site also gives two audio links !
