As part of the concert series in a major south-end suburb of Chennai, the Trichur brothers presented a scintillating concert. It went on for a full 3 hours but there was never a dull moment. The brothers have developed a style of ‘sharing’ the rendition equally and with great understanding. And they are not decibel savvy!
Reetigoula aalapana was rendered very well and the kriti (popularised by DKJ/Santhanam) had all the aesthetic ‘pidi’s. There was a beautiful niraval segment. Absence of Swara prastara was not felt. Jamboopathe- that colossus of a composition had all its grandeur.
Vasantha in vasantha mandapam (the venue) was a nice choice for RTP and many rasikas welcomed it as the raga is not commonly taken up for RTP. The sabarimalai season added relevance to the pallavi sahitya. V V Ravi gave an intimate accompaniment on violin.
Tani by Mohan (father of the duo) and Sankar was crisp and had the customary nadai variations.
Tukkadas followed after a brief felicitation by the Sabha organiser Sri Seshadri. The brothers were contemplating on taking up music as full-time vocation despite their professional CA credentials!
Naamam Nalla naamam popularised by Jesudas was nice. Maharajapuram Santhanam’s ‘Vilayaada ithu nerama’ is an evocative composition and was rendered touchingly.

Yes, they are good, sing effortlessly and maintain sowkhyam also. Their tukkadas are also surprising and different.
Hope this was recorded and will be uploaded in youtube. I like their style of singing.

Thanks or your succinct review. This year Vasantha is a favourite ragam for pallavi by many musicians. I had listened to Kunthalavarali-Vasantha by Bombay Jayasree. Yesterday Saketharaman sang Kalyani-Vasantha-Kalyanavasantham pallavi. Glad to note that Thrissur Brothers sang exclusive Vasantha RTP. That pallavi is set by TNS.
