The concert was held in nanganallur - certainly this pocket resembles 1970's mambalam and mylapore combined . Quite surprised to see a full house with even some standing and hearing the concert. The concert start was 06:15 pm and with no intervention and useless long mike checkups- the concert started on time. There was just a 2 minute announcement by organizers -Post main krithi . They spoke few words about the main kambodhi and announced the next day concert - the organizers were very sweet.
THe start in a weighty reetigowlai varnam never lets any musician down and possibly every thing was near perfect , may be the vocal volume was bit subdued which was corrected . BEgada vallabha nayakasya was well done , the submain in varamu was really fantastic . Varamu alapana had a lot of brigha sangathis and I liked a lot of nadaswara typecast pidis, my mind was hovering around tunai purindarul , i almost forgot this manasuloni and I liked his singing especially in neraval and swaras with mrudangam really giving solid support - he was running in same pace with vocalist.
Kosalam was the vivadi mela drop and I liked it . Suryaprakash USP of singing fast swaras came out exceptionally well in kannada gowlai with he and sai giridhar almost dropping like two american world war II soldiers and it was a normandy landing . I liked the surprise vilambit- that was sung post fast filler . He sang a lovely leisurely strong keeravani .Dropping slow krithi after fast number prior to main is not bad at all .He said he sang this keeravani krithis as it is aruthra darisanam day or something (not too sure what he told exactly). The krithi innamum sandeha padalama in keeravani had a lot of weight.
THe main was a lovely kambOdhi ,his alapana did have all facets and I for one like these biggie krithis like kAna kann koti. As the seceretary said in speech it was koti koti punyam , suryaprakash certainly had his own originality bringing in mmi school but definitely swara patterns were on spot manodharmam. THe intermediate neraval manikkam vairam was bit short,I felt he could have sung bit more sangathis .

08. RTP in kApi for 22 mins
tisra triputa
5 mins ragam and 5 mins taanam without mridangam
pallavi with swara ragamaliga in kapi + multani + brindavani
pallavi line manda hAsa vadanA harE krishna
09A. divya prabhandam - narayana gowlai + sindhubhairavi + bhAgeshri
09B. sreekantha yenagistu - bhAgeshri - PD
10. thullumathu - thirrupugazh - hamsanandi - AGN
11. pavamANa + vazhiya senthamizh
The pallavi in kapi with ragamaliga was crisp with very minimal violin return only in alapana .Post 2 mins talk by sabha patrons, he taking pallavi was asked by an elderly rasika and he sang that . I particularly liked the multani swaras in ragamaliga. I am hearing multani for the first time it looks like multani has 3 coats of subhapantuvarali paint with a light one coat of madhuvanti(If any one like TNS or BMK has sung multani please post those urls , looking forward to hear multani ) . He received few round of applause for the pallavi, just as kannada gowlai and kambOdhi .
THe tukkadas tapered well with me noticing a narayana gowlai start , i have only heard his cousin kedara gowlai for designer viruththams , kind of surprise to hear a detailed narayana gowlai viruthtamstart with touch and go sindhubhairavi and bhageshri that followed . purandara dasar krithi in Bhageshri was sreekantha yenagistu was lovely. THe last perumale Was very much a typical quick thirruppugazh
M R GOpinath asset is his non intrusion and he keeps the returns very minimal. BUt certainly the concert was a success only because of Sai Giridhar. I dont think i have heard him at all .His play was extraordinary and was controlled aggression at its best , i see a lot of overlap with Patri satishkumar. May I know which school he belongs to ? I will keep a watch on him for sure. Nangainallur swaminathan played very well and his best was in kambodhi swaras . Their tani especially 2nd round of sai giridhar earned a lot of applause .
nanganallur is a lovely place with far more suport for cm , i also noticed sangeetha swaminathan and melakaveri balaji among the audience . While city based sabhas get into the mode of packaging more back to back concerts and kind of diluting the intensity , it is these suburban sabhas which give more time that makes it far more worthwhile.
While I entered i saw a board with another week of concerts- looks nanganallur is all set to rock for the rest of the week(Prema rangarajan is singing in today, we have TV Ramprasadh, neyveli, sandeep ,TMK and abhishek all following). The season is over but with Suryaprakash and sai giridhar, it looked as though it just began.
Overall an excellent concert for 3 hours.

This is so near my home in Nanganallur. What a sad miss ! No place on earth can replace West Mambalam or Nanganallur for me !
Looks like the season gets a new start in Nanganallur.
