Yesterday, four people, with the combined age of 234 years, used Google Maps to arrive at a large metallic shed, duly carpeted and rangolied etc. off the Outer Ring Road, called Surabharati.
A young kid was warming up the proceedings with a vigorous chant of Vishnu Sahasranama. We joined in. Soon, many other people of varying seniority arrived, in time for a Ramakrishnan Murthy concert, Margasheershotsavam, accompanied by Charulata Ramanujam and H S Sudheendra.
We were treated to a Sangeetha yagna which transported us to the feet of Goddess Sharada in Sringeri :
1. Shloka in Kedara to Ganesha
2. Ananda Natana Prakasham
3. Mapali velasi
4. Needu charana pankaja
5. Mayamma
6. Vidhimukhambhoja Hamsi Sharade- composition of RKSK in Kambhoji, M Chapu, shloka by Swami Chandrashekhara Bharati
7. Tani
8. Another Sanskrit work (Swami Bharati Tirtha? Raga Hamir Kalyani)
9. Sharada Bhujanga Prayata of Adi Shankara in ragamalika (clever raga choices based on words like Sama, Latangi, charu etc!)
10. Haridasulu
11. Purvi tillana
12. Mangalam
Ramakrishnan Murthy warmed up pretty quickly. His voice was resplendent in Kambhoji. His niraval and swaras were mind-blowing.
As usual Charulata was excellent.
Sudheendra played an inspired tani.
I have no more words (nor photos) to describe an extremely well spent evening!
RKM is in a zone. Wow.
On a chilly, gloomy, evening of 13/1- RKM at Surabharati

Listen to the Sharada stotra in ragamalika:

The text is here: http://satyamparamdheemahi.blogspot.in/ ... otram.html
I am afraid some of the words and the ragas here are quite different from what RKM sang. Obviously there is more than one version!

No, sir. It is actually a composition of Sri Chandrasekhara Bharathi (1892-1954). Tuned by RK Sriram Kumar in Hamir Kalyani.

Rsachi,
This is just my second post on Rasikas. I love your style of writing and presentation. I will definitely follow on RKM. These youngsters are something else in diction and technique. In my first post I wrote about Aishu Venkataraman (violin solo) . Have you heard this youngster?. What are your thoughts. There is a young lady from Bangaleru also by name Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath who I enjoyed thoroughly. Please listen to her too.

Yes, Kurinji - ji.
Have heard both. In fact was at Aishu's violin concert for Radioweb. Her bowing technique is very much like her guru's!
I like Aishwarya V R, she is hard working and sings quite well.
Welcome to the world of "post "ers!

Sharada Bhujangam is also tuned in ragamalika by RKSK. Vijay Siva sings occasionally.
