I wonder how many people are aware that Ganesh is also a child prodigy. His concert was, till the end, flawless, pure and melodious; it was full of bhava and filled with beautiful passages both in raga alapana and swara prasthara portions. It was highly enjoyable, made all the more delightful with excellent accompaniment of Manjunath and Guruprasanna. There was perfect understanding between them. Raghu also rose to the occasion by his befitting replies.

Personal notes on Sri.Ganesh's concert.

1. From a listening point of you, I would rate it as one of the pleasantest instrumental concerts I have enjoyed in a very long time. Very much comparable to Sri.TNK's or Dr.Ramani's.
2. I had an opportunity to take a closer look at the instrument itself. Not having frets is not an ordinary difference. In such a long string, the fingering should be absolutely perfect if you need to achieve the correct swara. Also there is a whole lot of strings below the actual playing strings. Although I could not understand their purpose, my guess is that they resonate with the frequency of the swara played on the main strings . (Specialists can explain).
3. The music itself was just Perfect. There was not even a trace of suspicion of an apaswara.
4. There were many occasions when there was some kanakku in the taaLam. My feeling was that Raghu on violin had a bit of difficulty in following on such occasions. Otherwise in most part he gave very good support.
5. The percussion duo was just delightful. Seems they are childhood friends who have grown up in a musical environment. There was superb cooperation and at times friendly competition with smiles on their faces. Really nice to watch and listen.
6. Ganesh impressed all with fluent Kannada. He also gave a short talk towards the end about the instrument, his family of musicians, etc., Very humble impressive individual.
7. I could not help feeling that he, in spite of having the support of his illustrious cousins, has to some extent been over shadowed by the genius of Ravikiran and the more vocal Shashikiran. Probably these circumstances cannot be helped.
8. Such a concert deserves a larger audience. But let us blame it on the showering concerts syndrome of Bangalore :)

20.2.2015 Friday
Bharathi Ramasubban- Vittal Rangan- Bharadwaj- Sunaad Anoor

Song List:
1. Slokam in Mayamalavagowla followed by Vidulaku. N, S @ Kamalagowri
2. Paramapurusha - Shanmukhapriya. R, S @ Chaturamooruthi
3. EE Vasudha - Sahana - R, N @ Dasavaradha
4. Soundararajam- Brindavana saranga.
5. Velayya dayavillayaa - Saveri
6. Kandena Udupiya Krishna - Kambodhi. R, N & S @ Purandaravittalana paada kamalava (Main)
7. Thani
8. Virutham- Azhwar paasuram - Sediyaaya val vinaigaL - followed by Tirumangai alwar's paasurams on Venkateswara - Ragamalikai.
9. Tulasi Das Bhajan
10. Karunajooduninnu- Shri - Shyama Sastri
11. Pavamaana- Sourashtram

An excellent concert befitting her position as a senior disciple of Sri.PSN. Flavours of MS crept in involuntarily in many places. I liked the Brindavana saranga outline and Soundararajam. Kannada song for Main was a pleasant surprise. Thin audience for such a top class artist was an unpleasant surprise.

Vittal Rangan matched Bharathi in talent. However I felt that he did his alapanais at too slow a speed with long pauses, which took away the beauty of such leisurely music. Bharadwaj with good anticipation did an excellent job. Sunaad gave a cheerful efficient support.

I've previously heard of a behag version of kandena udipiya krishna.I would love to listen to a kambodhi version of this. Purandara vittala....is a nice place for a neraval. Overall sounds like an interesting choice for a main. I hope to hear it sometime.

I've heard Bharathi Ramasubban several times before. Her music appeals to me because of her originality, spontaneity and manodharma. I heard her concert recently on the radio as well where she sang anandabhairavi, bilahari and thodi - all very well rendered.
