Hema,
I saw the biodata of Mrudangam artist Sridharan and Bala. So much in IT but now with CM in IIT. Wow .Savita karthikeyan is not much in IT is what i guess but she having learnt from a wonderful guru like DKJ is just wonderful. I am just curious here , do you have some bias to invite those who work in IT /Computers or is it just incidental. Not that I am saying what you do is not to my liking .

Keep up your great work , CLT is the 2nd best hall in chennai to me. How is the CS dept Seminar Hall in comparison to CLT . I am not an admin ,it is ok to post into kutcheri review the event details only if you post the review post concert. I am sure you are going to do it.

I have seen and heard sridharan sankaran speaking never knew that he is also a performer. Rest of the two I am hearing for the first time.

Best wishes for all three artists to produce only analog music , digital computer music strictly No No despite the department . :!:

"O gosh is there a bug already , where is the violin artist?"

No, not a bug. She is apparently doing some experiments with only tanpura and soft percussion.

Actually, we would encourage people with new experiments!:)

"Savita karthikeyan is not much in IT is what i guess but she having learnt from a wonderful guru like DKJ is just wonderful."

No she is not into IT. We sought her help and felt that she MUST be heard by everybody interested.

It will not be the first though. TMK has done it. TVS was forced to do it recently for an hour as the violin artist ditched because of traffic jam. I heard gnana saabkaiyil a capella and it was indeed very pleasing.

Savitha Kartikeyan (vocal), Sridharan (mridangam), Balasubramanian (Kanjira)

Nadhathanumani sam -- Tyagaraja -- Cittaranjani
Teliyaleru Rama -- Tyagaraja -- Dhenuka -- swaram
Brova vamma -- Syama Sastri -- Nilambari
Hariyum Haranum -- Dikshitar Vasanta -- ragam,
Vancha tonu naa -- Harikesa Nallur -- Karnaranjani
Jambu pathe -- Dikshitar -- Yamunakalyani
Kamboji -- Slokan followed Navavarana Kriti -- Dikshitar ata -- ragam, swaram -- kamalam, tani
Viruttam -- Kaanada, Saveri, Begada, abheri
Maname -- Sivan -- Abheri
Kaatrinile varum gitam
Chinna chiru kiliyee -- ragamaalika
Shanti Nilavavendum

On the whole a delightful 2 hours. Perhaps we should have had violin accompaniment -- although the quality of her voice was
the same throughout, violin might have given her some respite, especially during the alaapana. Both Sridharan and Bala gave very good support.
Especially in the Kamboji piece and of!course for Maname, Shanti Nilavendum. The mridangam and kanjira were sort of subdued as requested.

There was nidaanam in her singing -- no anxiety any time.

I guess Sridharan and Savitha went back 20 years when he had accompanied her for a YACM concert.

I hope we hear more of her during the season.

Hariharaputram by Dikshitar or Hariyum Haranum - Atana by MDR?

Hema,
There is no neraval at all in the list . Is savitha karthikeyan like another vidwan who is known to skip neraval in the concert or is the absence of violin accompaniment forced her to skip.

While singing alapana the respite would have been ok is what i presume , how audience felt when she had to rest between swaraprastharam cycle is what i would like to know from you.

She hardly took any rest from one svaram cycle to that of another.

Jambupathe is easily her best. I go on to it
in her you tune page so often - she has fully captured the nuances and gamakams DKJ used to sing in Yamunakalyani.

In place of violin, she could have used the support of flute, of course, from her husband Karthik!! Karthik is a top class flautist, a disciple of Sri.Ramani, at least for the last 30 years, to my knowledge.
Savitha is doing great work in Bangalore by teaching music to children and most of them invariable win all the prizes in competitions.

Yes, we did ask him. He felt her sruti was pretty high and would require too much practice from him. He wanted to be part of the audience. And he was indeed great support for her throughout.
