Post by gardabha_gana »

Vid. Lalgudi GJR Krishnan
Vid. Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi
Vid. Neyveli Venkatesh
Vid. Guruprasanna

Fort High School Chamarajpet

1. Senthil Nagar Mevum - Varnam - Nilambari - Adi - LGJ
2. Ra Rama Inti - Asaveri - Adi (Sketch) - Tyagaraja (S)
3. Varadaraja Ninnu Kori - Swarabhooshani - Rupakam (Sketch) - Tyagaraja
4. Anyayamu Senukora - Kapi - Adi - Tyagaraja (R, S)
5. Ninnuvina - Thodi - Rupakam - Tyagaraja (R, N, S)
N @ Manasu...
6. Lavanya Rama - Poorna Shadjamam - M. Chapu - Tyagaraja
7. Naa Jeevadhara - Bilahari - Adi (R, S, T) - Tyagaraja
8. RTP - Kosalam - Sankeerna Chapu -
Venkataramana Sankata Harana Tirupati
Swaras in Bowli, Hamir Kalyani, Sivaranjani, Malayamarutham (I may be wrong here)
9. Speech
10. Rama Mantrava - Darbari Kaanada - Purandara Dasa
11. Tillana - Yamuna Kalyani - M. Chapu (Sketch) - LGJ
12. Mangalam

Superb concert, especially if you are a devotee of Lalgudi Sir's style (I am)
Only gripe - it was a Tyagaraja fest - some songs like the Kapi, Swarabhooshani new to me. Always great to hear Naa Jeevadhara with all its 14 Sangathis. RTP was in a rare melakartha in a difficult talam to keep (for me). Hats off to pull off such a concert following the footsteps of a legend.

gardhaba_gana,
Wish I were there...Glad you could savor the concert. That ninnuvinA alone would have been enough for me. Ages since I have heard it. Their playing would have been sukhamu gAni vErEmi?

Longer than the Cleveland festival, older than that--the Rama navami festival. If only the speeches were shorter!

Thanks, G_G. Sounds like a fabulous concert! I think just the nA jeevAdhAra alone would have been enough to carry such a kutcheri.
I have heard them play a kOsalam RTP before but it was in misra jhampai (tisra nadai). Sankeerna chapu has such a grand gait to it.

The song in kApi is completely new to me.

How was the mridangam? I have not heard Venkatesh accompany them before... although I can imagine the PSP style fitting quite well with this kind of music.

gardhaba_gana,

The audience was very less for such a lovely concert.I wish the siblings get better recognition.I agree with Mr.Rajeshnath suggestion else where in an earlier review that Sri GJR Krishnan should resume accompaniment to some top vocalists of today. This would widen the rasika base as Sri Lalgudi shot into fame due to his accompaniment.Gradually his Violin concerts started drawing full house.Presently only a dedicated set of fans of Lalgudi style patronize the concerts.
Thanks to gardhaba_gana for the review. The concert highlight was the great Neelambari varnam at the start.Sri GJR obliged my request.
The RTP in kosalam was a delight.
The accompaniments were very supportive.

MDR track..
What an alapana !!!! Makes me wonder if the Gods made the composition for the raga or the raga for the composition.
What a charming talent it takes to concieve these , either way.We are left dumbstruck at every turn.
What would living on earth be without CM . Whole day I have been listening to this song.I have to thank you guys,

HNB - I have a different take. I thought the crowd was good considering that the music was pure and the performers are instrumentalists. Instrumentalists including (Late) Mandolin Srinivas and Ravikiran don't attract the kind of crowds "popular" vocalists do. That's a fact of life. Look at the positive side - you can come late, get prime seating and listen to chaste music without any chatter! I believe the great MLV said all she needed is one genuine rasika to sing! MLV and LGJ are two whom I am indebted to and have most influenced me.

That apart, I would be thrilled to see GJR accompany again. He accompanied RKS few years back at MA. How thrilling will it be to see him accompany someone like say Ravikiran or Vijay Siva - it will be a double delight. My best memories are seeing LGJ Sir accompany Nedunuri, KVN, Santhanam, Ramani....

Gardabha_gana,

As far as crowd is concerned what you say is true.A very noisy concert in high pitch by a popular lady artist attracted very good crowd. It looks good classical violin concert failed to attract even a small percentage of the crowd. The Lalgudi Siblings have a daunting task as they are the prime torch bearers of Lalgudi bani. They are doing extremely well, but i fail to understand why even a good fraction of crowd which turn up on other days fail to recognize the talent.

HNB - I share your feelings and have come to terms with it. My favorites who don't attract the crowd they deserve - Lalgudi Siblings, KSG(flute), AKC (Clarionet), Vedavalli, Vijay Siva ... if you ask me - they are in elite company :)
