My observation

The following VIPs were present.
M Chandra sekharan, Charumathi Ramachandran
The Isai Anjali started exactly at 09 00 hrs with few Rasikas and slowly the Hall got filled up
There was no announcement on this event in this Forum which was a regular practice.
All musicians paid their homage with utmost devotion as done at Thiruvaiyaaru.
To my surprise TMK was present and his piece in Kambodhi was very apt and Arun prakash played very softly reminding Pazhani [ LHander too] and the rendering was very soothing and pleasing. Tiruchur mentioned that there were three Manis in the CM field
Pazhani, Palghat and GNB all with mani in their names. Thanjavur and Pudukottai were maintaining a very good rapport and Palghat was having very high regard for Pazhani. Pazhani's thoppi was a different one and Palghat used to admire his playing. Tiruchur's voice was not good and non co operative today . Shaky. MA S's playing of Madhyamavathi was very pleasing. Thani was excellent and lasted for 5 mts Both Mirudhangam and Ghatam showed their talents nicely. The entire program was well organized and Kudos to Mannarkovil. All rasikas were gifted with Grand Sweets Packet at the end. I might have omitted few important points and invite corrections.

Thanjavooran,
Thanks for your detailed (as usual) write up about the event. You say, no announcements were there to interrupt a shraddhAnjali like this--how agreeable! Every year, we see the pazhani school vidyArthis paying their homage thus. Young and old, veterans, stars and youngsters participated. Little fuss but lots of care, it seems to me, every year. Amrita Murali singing, and also playing the violin for TMK.

Pazhani, with his refined ways, would have liked it :)

Nick wasn't there?

A far from hoopla event. Thanks for being there.

Thank you Sri Thanjavooran. I am glad that you were able to attend this event.
Is Dr. Ashok also a disciple of the PSP school?

And kudos to Sri J Balaji and other PSP descendants for organizing this function every year.

Great report! Thank you! As Ramesh says, kudos to the organizers.
I like the viruttam (?), kanavilum pazhani, ninaivilum pazhani....very apt for the occasion!

As thanjavooran notes, the event was not announced in this forum, and I did not open the newspaper today until nearly mid-day.

Was Sri Kalidas there? I have not seen him around for quite a while. A couple of weeks ago, his son assured me that he was fine.

This is not viruththam - it is a krithi. Looks veeramani has popularized it.Check this

Just observing the above .
I have seen trichur ramachandran is one rare musician who generally takes a hatrick of R N S . I have had few records of his and he does it in style. It requires stamina and confidence to present three R N S in a row.Kudos to him.

Mannarkoil Balaji , Kalidas sir and few more who are part of this,
Kudos on organizing this program year after year. I recollect few years back one mrudangam student composed a korvai and sang with every phrase ending with pazhani.

Immense thanks to Shri Thanjavooran for his excellent coverage. It shows his commitment for details and also his dedication to art as a whole. In all humility I can say that what my Guru Shri MNK did I am not even doing 10%.

The credit of bringing this Trust goes to Shri K S Kalidas, Madirimangalam Shri Swaminathan and Shri A V Ragguprasad (all senior disciples of Pazhani Subramania Pillai avl). Shri K S Kalidas is still with us as guiding-light and he gives his full support for the events organised.

Apart from Shri K S Kalidas (Now Trustee Emeritus), Sangita Kalanidhi Dr Trichy Sankaran, Shri Guruvayur Dorai, Srimushnam Shri Rajarao and Shri K Arunprakash remain as trustees.

A few years ago the mantle of managing this Trust was handed over to me and since then I am trying my best to do the Guru Pujas as sincerely as possible. (One guru puja in Chennai that of Palani Subramania Pillai and another that of Manpundia Pillai at Pudukkottai).
