chandrakauns was always a rAgam that did not stay too firm in my head till I heard in the rasikas.org concert #2 .
madurai gs mani with his own krithi "nAlai varum endru nambalamA" was that day brilliant.

Phew, finally I could place where I had heard TNS's Chandrakauns before....I suppose Chandrika means Chandrakauns!
BMK...Chandrakauns....what else do we need!

Re: Chandrakauns
The name of this rAgA as it exists now is from HM. That makes 3 'kauns' so far - mAlkauns, madhukauns, and now chandrakauns.
21 keeravaaNi janya
Aa: S G2 M1 D1 N3 S
Av: S N3 D1 M1 G2 S
Replacing N2 with N3 from hindOlam gives a much darker, haunting character to this rAgA that makes it stand out. It shares its arOhanam (and part of it's character) with present day kalyAnavasantam, so there is a chance of mixing up their identities at first hearing.
Well, speaking of haunting, there is one song in this rAgA that has haunted many people on this forum for years now. Yes, that one, the big, fat, ghost of Pandharpur!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beJXJVwD3v4 - Darbar Festival's YT channel btw.
Get this, 2 of the oldest and well known Vaishnava devotees were named after ghosts, so He is not just localized to Pandharpur.
And before you think this rAgA is only for the haunted, there have been RTPs in it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goACbiFnmyQ - From Prema Rangarajan's channel.
kanDEna gOvindana of Purandaradasa is tuned to this rAgA as well. So here are two tracks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnCKS_qJHPM - by Sanjay (from INRECO's YT Channel)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nRFbOImLwE - by Bombay Jayashri (from Kosmik Music's YT Channel)
