Sankark
By any chance is AS aruna sairam . Quite a surprise that she is singing in a small hall like ragasudha hall.

I attended this concert for a short duration till the kriti Parmathamudu. Thanks for the song list. Yes the hall was full. I really wished for a bigger hall. Smt.Aruna Sairam gave a lively concert. But sadly could not stay till the end.

Yes, Aruna Sairam indeed for 2 hours or so. Wish she had sung for some more time. Whatever the detractors say, IMO, this is unbridled exuberant music. Seems she sinks into the music she sings.
sumasAyaka, vIna pustaka & the last tEvaram were the pick for me. JV shone through the way he joined/played at mAnini for the pada varnam.

The disappointment of Mylapore Mamas and Mamis must be greater than my ecstasy!rshankar wrote:And even more, no abhang! Harimau must be ecstatic!!
Seriously, this shows what the lady is capable of. Unfortunately, while she was singing chaste Carnatic music, nobody came to her concerts. She had to resort to gimmicks to attract crowds.
But once she started riding the tiger, she can't dismount.
Or, is it the cow?

Also disappointing was the non inclusion of the "Pichakkaaran paadaantharam" ramanatakam song.

Don't delude yourself. I remember a concert she sang in Shastri Hall many years back to a sparse crowd. She sang a long alapana of Madhyamavati and followed it with "Arputha leelaigalai" as the main piece. One old rasika sitting next to me remarked, "Of all the songs in Madhyamavati she has to choose an MKT film song?" Learning a "pichaikkaaran paadaantharam" from an authentic source is not enough to make the music chaste. Maybe the lack of crowds is enough for some to think that I guess!while she was singing chaste Carnatic music, nobody came to her concerts.

Sankark or anyone else who attended,
It appears like an all-Brinda list. I'm curious to know how okapAri jUDaga rAdA was sung..
Was it sung in the popular tune, the way Hyderabad brothers and others sing it, m, m, mg s,s, for o-ka- pa-a-ri; or the version p-d-p,,m- for o-ka- pa,, ri?

If "Arputha leelaigalai" was good in construction and in chaste madyamAvathi and she sang it well, whats the big deal? Is it a rule that a song popularized by MKT in cinemas shouldn't be sung on carnatic concerts.tiruppugazh wrote:Don't delude yourself. keerthi - waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay above my knowledge to answer that; it was a at very fast pace though as I recall. She mentioned that most of the songs were oft sung by Brindamma.

I guess this is a reaction to my observation that the Brinda-Mukta school supposedly learnt "Yen Pallikonder Ayya" in Madhyamavathi from a beggar woman.tiruppugazh wrote:Also disappointing was the non inclusion of the "Pichakkaaran paadaantharam" ramanatakam song.
That would make it "Picchaikkari Patantharam" rather than "Pichaikkaran Paadantharam".
You need to get your genders correct. But then, when you are frothing at the mouth, I don't expect that you can get grammar or gender right.
PS. I suppose you have placed a bulk order for milk with Aavin, the supplier in Chennai, for doing an abhishekam to a cut-out of the tup-tup artist at the Music Academy premises on the day he is anointed the next Sangeetha Kalanidhi! After all, this is the method popularised by fans of Rajanikanth and similar objects of idol worship.
PPS. The tup-tup artist's peeve at not being paid Rs 100,000 at Hamsadhwani on par with a Hindusthani musician can only increase if he found out that a certain female singer has been commanding that level of payment from the Academy for the last several years. Marathi abhangs beat Tamil songs hands down!

If film songs should not be sung, we should fault people like KVN for singing "Ma Ramanan Uma Ramanan", DKJ for singing "Manamey Kanamum Maravathey Jagadeesan Malar Padamey" and all those who sing "Thunai Purindharul Taruna Madhava" and a host of other songs Papanasam Sivan wrote for movies!tiruppugazh wrote:Don't delude yourself. And let us not forget "Piravaa Varam Thaarum" in Lathangi written for the movie "Nandanar" and sung as a staple by every musician.

Harimaaavu... One of your more sensible posts... Keep 'em coming.
I can see that you are already champing at the bit about the tup tup kalanidhi's repertoire for the coming season. It takes a consummate rasika (although still in the closet, it appears) to start licking his chops so early. Wonder if he will incorporate Sindhanai Sei manamey or Katru veliyidai kannamma into the tukkada session. Wonder what his Jaya TV theme will be? Has to be something mind tupping from an SK. I am sure he is thinking about it even right now.
Anyhoo will count on you for about 20 packets of the 1% variety... You know thalaivar is very health conscious!! You can even write it off as lacto tolerance rasikas study on mylapore mamis as you chase him from venue to venue!

If you think Brova Bharama was specifically written for a movie. -- unlike all the songs of Papanasam Sivan that I cited -- you are a greater idiot than I thought you to be!tiruppugazh wrote:Manavaadu daasar forgot Brova barama from KavarimaanIf film songs should not be sung, we should fault people like KVN for singing "Ma Ramanan Uma Ramanan", DKJ for singing "Manamey Kanamum Maravathey Jagadeesan Malar Padamey" and all those who sing "Thunai Purindharul Taruna Madhava" and a host of other songs Papanasam Sivan wrote for movies!

Do you think the tup-tup artist will boycott the Music Academy for 5 years like he did with Hamsadhwani for not being paid Rs 100,000 like another musician was? Would it be for longer period since that was a Carnatic musician who got Rs 100,000? Would he turn down the Sangeetha Kalanidhi?
"Manavaadu Dasar" because I rate Andhra musicians higher than the tup-tup artist? How about asking the tup-tup artist to stay in sruthi and keep talam properly during his Music Academy concert this year?
May be the milk abhishekam should be directed to Kapaleeswarar as only He can save the situation!

One concert for the purpose of Sociological Research is all I can handle! Anything more and I will be a case study in psychology!
However, I am thinking of going to the Academy at 7 am and videoing the sheeple as they beg and plead for tickets.

No, because you are true dasa of the artistes from Manavaadu land"Manavaadu Dasar" because I rate Andhra musicians higher than the tup-tup artist?

That is already known and documented, given the number of times you have attended concerts of your targets and reported back here.Anything more and I will be a case study in psychology!

Harimau,
A hurt big cat, like an elephant doesn't forget, it seems.
To carry your 'whatever you have' against this particular artiste is beyond my understanding. Unless you tell me that in the following years, on your hearing the news about your 'favored' female musicians getting the same award, you would act even more virulent

Totally tangential thought/query
Am listening to Ramakrishnan Murthy right now singing cakravAkam. Gives a hint of sugunamulE; most cakravAkam Alapanais immediately lend a connection to sugunamulE; atleast to me and those that I have heard; not to gajAnanayutham or vInapustakadhArinim. The query - given that vEgavAhini in asampoorna is cakravAkam in sampoorna, any Alapanai that channels vInApustakadhArinIm/gajAnanayutham out in the wild?
