Commemorating the 150th Birth Year of Mysore Vasudevacharya
Vidvan Shankar and Team treated us to a delightful concert for 2 hours and 15 minutes with Mysore Vasudevachar’s compositions.
For an additional half hour, they gave us select compositions of Haridasa-s and Vid Padmacharan, one of Sri Shankar’s mentors.
This was a perfect setting for me, with Mysore Vasudevachar, Sri Shankar, Haridasa-s, and seasoned accompanists from namma Detroit!
Where else would I be that afternoon of July 26th but the front row seat?
I know I had a wide grin on my face as each item unfolded:
1. Vanajaksha ninne kori - Varna – Mandari – Adi
2. Lambodaram avalambe - Kambodhi – Rupaka
- Alapana by Shankar and JSB
- Neraval @ SuraBhusara and then swara
3. Dasharatha Nandana – Mayamalava gowla, Adi

4. Ninne nammitinayya – Simhendra Madhyama

5. Bhajare re Manasa – Abheri
6. Devadi deva – Sunadavinodini – Adi
7. Ra Ra Rajeeva lochana – Mohana

- Neraval @ Ra Ra Rajeeva lochana

8. Erana sAmi pagavAru Emi {Javali in Kamach (with Kakali Nishada)}
9. Pranatartiharam Aham Bhaje – Junjuti
I believe Sri Shankar had planned a concert exclusively with Vasudevachar’s compositions, but at this point, the organizers requested for some compositions of Haridasa-s.
Sri Shankar obliged with the following:
10. Adisidal Yashoda – Kapi
11. A very elaborate Shloka - Shuddambrahma vichara sara paramadyam in raga malika (I missed the first raga, it was Dhanyasi, Begade and then Kalyani) leading up to Shrungapuraadeeshwari Sharade (Composer: Padmacharan)
12. Padava toro Sri Rama (Raga?) A composition of Sri Padarayaru (ankita: Ranga Vittala)
13. Bhagyada Lakshmi baramma (Madhyamavati) – Purandara Dasaru
14. A shloka – Dhyanavu krutayugadi followed by a mangala song - Marajanaka chaturaanana (Sindhu Bhairavi) – another compostion of Sri Padarayaru
Sri Shankar’s music was delightful and the song selection made it a double-delight.
I could tell Sri Shankar was very happy with the accompanists and he very openly showed his appreciation for Jayashankar and Rajashekar during the performance.
I was fortunate to have attended this concert.
